Austin History Center Review

I honestly thought this was an abandoned building for the longest time. It's a beautiful structure in the inside smells of old paper =)

want to know anything about historic Austin this is the place to go. special exhibit on trolleys very interesting.

Attended an event presided over by the author of a book about the capitol of Austin. The event was well organized, with chairs, snacks, and a podium. A microphone would have helped due to the fact that many attendees were over fifty. That day the air conditioner was on in spite of freezing temps outside. But that didn't keep us from enjoying the heck out of this writer's stories!

I actually went for the first time yesterday, it was lovely I took a yoga class with a friend there and the service was great the environment was wonderful everything was just very peaceful and inviting

A hidden gem. Quiet. Very strict rules on copies of historic photos.

This place has a lot of history to it and a great place to go visit. It's free to go in and look. The librarians and incredibly polite and helpful. And they have a history to look at.

I really liked it, and I see that the root of this is Latin

I love our library!! Think Hogwarts with all the staircases going in every direction. So many different designs throughout that there is a spot for people looking for various vibes. From the quite room where no one is talking, to the children's area full of laughter, to the peaceful breeze of the rooftop patio overlooking the city, this library has all you can ask .

A group of dedicated volunteers and organizers have committed time and money to preserve the history and stories of Austin.

Its nice but it will be better if they use more stuff

Everyone should visit the AHC at least once while in Austin. The historic building itself is beautiful, but the exhibitions are always great too. Take some time to go into the reading room and request some materials from one of their many collections. It's a great, hands on way to learn about the city's history through the papers of its community members.

We got a Forbes Award for this building. There's awesome acoustics, a top floor patio, a 3D printer. Go check it out! You need to find your own parking though.

Not much in the way of exhibits right now (nov 2018) but the staff are really helpful with local history and research about local history

The place to go for a deeper understanding of our History that will instill a sense of Pride within you.

Good place to visit for historical purposes and the staff is very informative and nice too.

Small but very informative! The hallway and research area have many blown up photos full of history. They have a meeting room that is apparently available for rent.

Taking good care of Mexican American Cultural Arts Center archives, Perez/ Ramos archives & other important history !!

Great place for people working on their family histories.

It's ok. Interesting for about an hour. The staff is very knowledgeable and courteous.

Very neat, but didn't have any particular exhibits going when we had visited.

I had always been curious about this beautiful buili - it's an amazing archive of all things Austin!

This is something that I recommend to all locals. It is a fascinating experience and a treasure of information.

I USED THE COMPUTERS DAILY IN TRACING MY FAMILY TREE HOPING TO FIND ALL MY FAMILY MEMBERS HERE IN AUSTIN, TEXAS AND RELATIVES THAT ARE DECEASED AND LEFT PROPERTY BEHIND WITH TEXAS COMPTROLLER OF PUBLIC ACCOUNTS AS UNCLAIMED PROPERTY AS MY SISTER SHARON ANN BYRD AND HER FATHER MR. PAUL DARBY AT TEXAS COMPTROLLER OF PUBLIC ACCOUNTS DENY MY IN HEIR SHIP RIGHT.

Small but a nice place to visit especially on hot days.

Easy to lose track of time here. So many things to see and read.

So Much History..A Bevy of Information. Fantastic individuals to assist in expanding your knowledge.

I went to book signing there for "Tower Sniper: The Terror Of America's First Active Shooter On Campus". It's a very nice building and has some really cool exhibits. It's worth checking out if you're in the area. There is a nice little park across the street with a gazebo.

One of Austin's great treasures. Worth a visit for the building alone but there are also many great Austin historical resources.

It's equipped with a wealth of information and arts crafts and historic places people and much more.it is a must see and explore.

This place is absolutely amazing and perfectly preserves Austin's rich history! Additionally, I am unsure as to who is responsible for keeping this place neat and tidy and organized but they did a fabulous job!
