It's a really great place to spend the day (even when it's chilly)! The Maryland Zoo seems to care a lot about its animals who appear healthy and pretty happy. The polar bears are a must see
I have not been there in years. However, it clean exciting, interesting and full of great information. I cannot comment on the concession stands. I was there for a 2yr old birthday party. Which the pavilions are spacious clean.
Then we toured the zoo as part of a birthday package. So much fun.
Have been going here for years! Grat way to spend the day with kids and grandkids
Had a great time. So things the kids look forward to are currently closed, but it was so nice to go on a Sunday and it not be too busy.
Haven't visited the zoo in years. Today was a good visit.
What a great zoo. Big enough to have all the "big" animals, but small enough to not be overrun with crowds. A bit off the beaten path in Baltimore, but worth it. Free parking, decent ticket prices (check out the annual pass!) and quck entry. The kids' walk area, complete with suspension bridges, giant slides, and a petting zoo, is fantastic. Looking forward to the new exhibits being ready later in 2019.
We really enjoyed our visit to this zoo. Lots to see...lots of walking, but great exhibits. We would definitely visit again. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It's not as big as our zoo and aquarium here in Pgh, but it was fantastic for a day of leisurely fun with the family.
Clean, courteous staff, benches to rest and sit, however no lions or elephants due to construction
My first time ever going. My kids loved it. I enjoyed every moment of seeing the animals and just being able to spend time with my scholars.
A clean zoo with plenty of activities for kids and a wide selection of animals in well-designed habitats.
Great place for kids; wonderful animals, with lots of friendly staff!
Nice midsize zoo. Good selection of exhibits. You can walk from the entrance to the main section of the zoo but the trams are much faster and very useful when visiting with small children.
Excellent staff, very knowledgeable in their areas of expertise.
Zoo was very nice, but don't leave anything in your car. It will be stolen.
Beautiful zoo, doable size. Lots of shade for those hot summer days!
Great zoo. Fun day. Worth the price of admission. Polar bears and penguins
oh my! Oh yeah lions tigers and bears too.
Family and I love the zoo and getting to see all the animals. Can not wait till the renovations get completed to see the new exhibits.
A well done, small zoo. Plenty of room for animals, easy to traverse, reasonable fees and helpful staff. They have good COVID precautions and easy parking.

Love the zoo it so fun im a lion fan and i love it they are working so hard to keep everything in good shape! im sorry for the loss of the otter......hope you guys get better soon!
So much fun. Got there when they opened and didnt leave until closing. So much to see and do.
Please do your research. Too many events one day. Comfortable shoes a must
Lots of construction
Excellent zoo! Always clean, rarely crowded and beautifully tucked into the park. I see a lot of comments about prices but if you live close by and expect to go more than once, a family membership will pay for itself in pretty much two visits. You can also bring your own food for a family picnic - huge plus!
Took our entire family here and they absolutely loved it!
The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is an excellent updated zoo to visit with all ages. The penguin exhibit is world class and one can easily spend an hour watching the penguins. It is great to see the efforts made over the past 15 years to improve the animal and visitor experience. I prefer the experience at this mid sized zoo that focus on doing a great job with a smaller number of animals. Their increased focus on conservation is also visible around the zoo, which is great to see.
While a small zoo, still a great place to spend the day with the kids!
Beautiful setting within Druid Hill Park. Lots of tree cover. They're currently doing a lot of renovation but it's still worth the trip.
Too much going on with renovations. Would be great but too many main attractions shut down. Fix one thing, then work on the next project. Potential to be awesome. Daughter still had a great time and that's what counts.
Not a whole lot of animals here... can do the while place in an hour!
Lot of walking, the animals are fun to watch, they have fun kids stuff to do so bring the kids but don't expect to be wow by the animals on display. Just have been there way to many times and nothing new is ever added so take that statement with a grain of salt. I understand more animals is a no no in the zoo community like I said I have been there to many times.
We have been members for years. We appreciate the Maryland Zoo trying to remain open back in March using sensible covid19 precautions. We attended the final day in march before the zoo was shut down by....
We were there the first day it reopened in early June then again on September 5th. I thought a few of the stringent restrictions may have been lifted, but were not. After a few rude customers cut in front of us september 5th, an employee turned us away saying our kids full face masks not acceptable. Bummer, but i had a few spare masks on me. I understand why some of the tight indoor areas like the reptile caves were closed, but quite a few more animal areas were offline. Even the kids playground closed, which is strange cause most playgrounds have been open for over one month. All about safety right? Then why is the gift shop open? Kids asked me to take them to Catoctin Mountain Zoo again. More animals there anyway. If the Maryland Zoo, remains stuck in phase 1 of reopening much longer, we may just buy a membership at the Catoctin Zoo. So many other sights in that valley to visit, like Grotto of Lourdes and Elizabeth Ann Seton Shrine in emmitsburg. She started in baltimore opening the country's first catholic school, btw.
I really enjoyed my trip to the Baltimore Zoo. My only complaint is the cost of food and drink. I also think the Polar Bears and Grizzlies deserve A LOT more shape to swim and walk! Otherwise, I enjoyed seeing the Lions, leopards, cheetahs, bobcat, chimps, penguins, giraffes, etc
Our little family of three live in PA and were on a mini vacation in Virginia. We took a small detour on our way back to finish off our vacation at the zoo. Our little guy was 18 months so it was his first time at a zoo. We haf a terrific time. It was during the fall so there was no croud at all. The price of admission was more then reasonable as well. We were able to see the entire zoo and all it had to offer in less then 4 hours. All in all we had an amazing day.
There was a loy of construction going on so we werent able to see lions and elephants, but that just means we will have to go back when the updates are complete!
Good family place needs more attractions. And many one large food place. Meaning name brand. Al's needs more water a final attractions a lot of people do not like going to the inner harbour.
Get a close experience with the animals, high prices for everything ,
Smallish zoo; great staff. My 5yo especially loved the Goat Corral, where you could pet and spend time with the goats, and the attendant was very friendly and knowledgeable. All of the staff was pleasant and engaging. Lovely way to spend the day.
It's a small zoo, but still a lot of fun! The main attraction areas seem to be their penguins and African exhibits. Their Oktoberfest event is also a good time!
The animals were out. There were many animals to explore.
I have many fond memories from the zoo, both as a child and an adult. The zoo has a variety of exhibits, and staff that are dedicated to providing the utmost care to the animals. Great place for a family outing.
Also impressed by the zoo's involvement in many conservation efforts.
Zoo was almost completely under renovation works. But we came to know only after we purchased tickets for all and went inside.
Very fun can't wait for the elephant exhibit to be done.
Awesome experience for a summer day, plenty of animals, knowledgeable staff, and great outdoor fun
Lots of volunteers who really care about the animals, & their knowledgeable about them too. New penguin & new polar bear exhibit. Building on a new elephant exhibit is in progress now. Almost always fun activities &/or events are taking place:Easter egg hunts, Zoo Boo, Zoo Brew, & many more.
As a man born and raised in the Baltimore area, I can say that up until today I did not have fond memories of the Baltimore/Maryland zoo. Most of my prior memories were negative and it had actually been quite a while since I visited a zoo. Whenever my family and I want to go to the zoo, we normally take the one hour trek out to Washington DC to visit the Smithsonian zoo . However today we decided to go on an adventure down to the city and I was highly pleased and impressed. We had a great day, everything was clean, there were plenty of animals to see and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The elephants and the lions were not out because of construction to their areas. However everything was great. We will definitely be back sooner than later. Highly recommended.
This zoo is smaller than the National Zoo and does not have free admission, but the animals were more exciting and exotic. Also, there were more chances T viewing the animals than I typically experience at the National Zoo.
Best zoo in the DMV area, and it's never busy! Perfect size for a half day with the kids.
Lots of fun! I found there was very good food, prices and service. My children loved the slide and the lions, flamingos, polar bears, and apes were the best. They were very informative about animals and you could tell safety was their number one priority. I would definitely suggest this above many other zoos I have visited.
Fun place to go but a TON of walking plus there's plenty of hills to walk up and down but other then the hills it's wonderful ! Bring everyone old and young there's something for everyone! Very clean
Always a fun place to spend time with the family on the weekends. Just would like to see them expand a bit more. I miss how big the zoo use to be when I was a kid. Now it just feels too small and can be walked in about 1 hour 30 minutes. Just hard to make a whole day out of it. The staff do a great job at having little learning stations around the park so kids can engage and learn something at the same time. All in all still a go to for my family when we just want to get out the house and have some fun.
Was there for a field trip, to cold to really see anything the kids would enjoy
It was nice. A lot of the animals weren't there. The staff was very helpful.
Fun place to go. Took my grandson and he was thrilled.
Great zoo, wish we had time to do encounters. The penguins are amazing. I could ramble on about this zoo.
Ok zoo foe the Baltimore city surrounding area but the cost to expensive.
It was a great experience. It was a nice day and most of the animals were easily visible!! The kids really enjoyed it. The only not so pleasant part was the wait on our food was almost an hour long.
The zoo has been renovated. Beautiful getaway to see amazing animals close.
We actually saw the lions come out when we went. Spectacular beautiful, powerful cats.
All in all getting a membership is a great way to save if you plan on going more then twice. Discounts on food events also I believe you can save at aquarium as well.
Nearby just a great way to leave your worries for a day.Enjoy!!
I was very impressed coming here after frequently visiting the national zoo. The variety of animals and the fact that the zoo isn't as overcrowded was great. The people guins and the polar bear were a big hit as well with the little ones.
We always love our trips to the zoo! The Keepers are friendly and knowledgeable, and the layout is easy to follow. It can be pretty crowded on mornings when the weather is fine, but we've found if you go after 12 it's a little quieter, and a quiet afternoon at the zoo can't be beat!! We really enjoy the wonderful diversity of animals, and my boys never want to leave the slides, carousel, the train..... We've been going here since they were just a couple months old, and our membership has been well worth it every year!! For an educational field trip or just a fun day outside, there hasn't been another place my boys loved more!
A very good option for a family passages. Beautiful place
Amazing animals like the Polar Bears and Penguins..
You have to pay but I think it's better than DC otherwise.
Amazing place offering a tremendous amount of spectacular costumer service. I would recommend this place to everyone and anyone anytime of the year. They take care of their costumers with passion like i have. Never seen before. I was really impressed. And the location is fenamnel mnel. Good stuff i love the maryland zoo
A good place to walk in winter the number of animals visible is limited
Lots of pets for a small zoo. The only disadvantage is that it closes at 4pm.
Very first time visiting the zoo, had a blast. This was a great little treasure in Baltimore city. The animals here were not terribly exotic, but were interesting. Many of them seemed to be in too-small enclosures, which was a little troubling, but some of the closeness to the animals made them easier to see. The monkey house puts you very close to chimps, and you might see all sorts of social interactions among them.
Always enjoy the sights, animals, and the staff help you to enjoy as much as possible.
My favorite zoo!!! I love the Rhino and Ostrich and Zebra in the same area.. coexisting. So cool.
Everything was very well organized with clear signs. The zoo is incredibly clean and just the right size for young children. A favorite for the family any time of year.
