Drove by the place tons of time, finally had a chance to stop in. Friendly staff and a very wide selection of camping and outdoor gear. I saw some climbing walls in the back as well (and not small ones). I ended up leaving with a 10" cast iron skillet, something I've been meaning to purchase for some time. Will definitely recommend you stop in to check them out!

Good selection of outdoor gear, in particular footwear and clothing. But also hiking, camping and climbing gear. No cycling gear.

Prices seem fair. Friendly staff. Clean, well-maintained place. Plenty of parking and easy to find.

A couple people had recommended this store to us to purchase hiking shoes for our trip to Iceland. We were impressed by the staff. Jeff collaborated with another associate as to what would work for me as I wear children's sizes. The attention to detail that he provided as well as his sincere interest in our trip made us completely confident and satisfied with our purchases.

This store is well stocked and well staffed. I research my items on their website before I go in, but always double check with an employee before I purchase. The staff is well informed and have, on occasion, recommended alternative items. I appreciate their opinion and experience with my gear.

Quality gear and great staff!!! I've bought a good amount of backpacking equipment here with no complaints. If you love outdoor adventure, it's a lot of fun to simply walk through the store every once in a while!

My boyfriend and I frequent Appalachian and Kendal...

My boyfriend and I frequent Appalachian and Kendall Cliffs often, spend a lot of money in climbing equipment and climbing. We both bought new climbing shoes this week.. $200 each. I bought mine a size too small (no one helped me when I was purchasing them, at all), I put them on at Kendall to climb noticed they might be too small DID NOT CLIMB IN THEM and walked over to see if I could exchange them since I had bought them 2 hours ago. Sherry saw a little dust of chalk on them and told me once they are climbed in they cannot be returned. I explained to her that I had only put them on and walked around the rock climbing gym.. which does have chalk present in it, yes. But that I had not climbed in them - check the tapes :) So when I told her they were not climbed in she then let me know that the policy was different then the aforementioned policy she had just told me - NOW she tells me all climbing sales are final. Strange that they were not just a minute ago, I could have returned them had they not had a speck of chalk on them. They had not even been out of the store for 2 hours, they had not been on my feet for more than 5 minutes. Customer service is obviously not a priority for Sherry, I was going to order these shoes online and decided to support Appalachian instead - I obviously made a mistake. We will be taking our business else where, and I will let everyone know how Sherry treated me :) If you don't want to deal with the customer... don't be in customer service.

The staff are friendly, and the selection is pretty good. Only high end and top quality brands are carried, so if you want the cheap version of some thing you may need to go elsewhere. While you can find most of their products online for slightly cheaper, their prices are reasonable. For things like hiking boots, climbing harnesses, backpacks and the like, I would rather pay 10% more and get fitted correctly the first time.

Also if you have a valid Boy Scout registration card you can get 10% off.

Visited here with our Scout troop to learn climbing and repelling a while back (pre-pandemic). The experience was excellent. The staff was helpful and did a nice job teaching the kids. The more challenging faces were open for the adults, so there was really something for everyone. The store was ok, but we did not spend much time in it.

The manufacturer (Helle) recommended this shop on their website. I prefer giving business to small businesses when I can. Ordered, they shipped quick. Unfortunately they use USPS. In standard USPS fashion the package was lost. Easy to fix right? With Amazon or REI, LL Bean its simple, they send out another and take care of the rest with USPS. I was told I needed to handle it through the post office. Can t file a claim for 15-60 days. So I spent a $120 to receive nothing and get no help. Learned my lesson. Still buying the Helle product but through their Amazon offerings. I understand it s hard on small businesses these days but at the end of the day I don t want to pay lots of money and get no product.

Call me stupid, but I've shopped at this store since it was in Canton 20+ years ago, before it moved to Truxell Rd. I've NEVER had a good experience in the store. I have had fun rock climbing. The staff always acts like they are so much cooler and more "outdoorsy" than me. Maybe they don't like the fact that I don't have a Subaru? Last week I bought a pair of shoes, ended up not using them and tried to return them yesterday. I did not have the receipt, or the box, although I paid for them on my credit card, and they logged the sale in their system. They said they could tell I never wore them and offered to refund 75% of my total because the box was missing, and the next person that bought the shoes would really want the box. Out of principal I kept the shoes and will shop at REI, Backcountry, GearExpress and countless other online retailers. I will no longer pay exorbitant prices and be mistreated while trying to support a local store.

Amazing selection and more impressive are their knowledgeable staff. They are patient, polite and more than willing to present all options available with an explanation. They have my business for sure!

LOVE this store! I had never been until this year and I ll never go anywhere else! I bought one pair of hiking boots earlier this year and I just bought another pair for work this month! All of their merchandise is awesome quality, too. I started a new job and searched EVERYWHERE for women s outdoor work pants and this was the only place I could find them, lots of options too! The people there were so friendly and helpful as well! It is much appreciated especially in hard times!

I get all my outdoor stuff from Appalachian outfitters because they always have what I need at a price I can afford. They have a knowledgeable staff that can assist you with various needs in hiking camping and climbing goods. One of the things I like the most is that they don't carry junk, you won't walk into their store and find cheap ill fitting cloths, or equipment that's wonky and prone to breakage, just the best money can buy for each situation.

This place is the best here in Ohio. When I was preparing for my thru-hike of the AT they were very helpful and very knowledgeable. Everything from lightweight tents, useful pack configurations, and boots verses sandals on the trail. I would send anyone of my trail friends up to see them for a nice chat about all thing trail related.
