Appalachian Brewing Company Review

I really like this place. Everytime I eat here I am happy with the food. However, their vegetarian options are very, very limited. Being in a larger city of Harrisburg I would think they would offer way more vegetarian entree's. Considering that both the Impossible Burger and the Beyond Burger are available nation wide it might be time for the management to get on board with either "fake" meat burger and add to their menu, black bean burgers, yes they are good, but the Impossible Burger or the Beyond Burger is where it is at. I only gave 4 stars cause when I visited on 11/5/19 it was warmer outside then inside. I had heard other patrons as they left complaining about the temp. as well. The sever was wearing a jacket. It was like a meat locker in there, when I mentioned to the server about the temp. she said the manager had to unlock the box around the thermostat. If people paying you for food are all wearing jackets, turn on the freaking heater. Needless to say I won't be going back until July, lets hope it isn't too hot cause they don't want to turn on the a.c.. The beer is alright too.

The WORST service we ever had. The place was completely empty and wouldn t seat us. We are here for a basketball tournament and we are taking our service elsewhere. Don t eat or drink here. This place is pathetic!!!!

There was lots of walking around by the waitress; with very little attention given to the costumers. I was with a party of seven, it appears strange everyone's food came out at different...

Beer was okay. Bartender was the worse ever. I will never go back nor will I ever spend any money on any Appalachian beer or product again.

Overall good food and tasty beer. I really wish the nachos had melted shredded cheese versus the liquid yellow cheese.

This was an amazing venue for attending a wedding reception. The atmosphere was perfect. The food was amazing. I have no feeling for the cost, since I was a guest. Fine selection of beers brewed on site.

Good chacolate stout, dinner salad, and peanut butter pie. Service was slow but then it was a busy Friday evening.

Food (burger and fries) was good. But a relatively nice evening went gross when we left the dining area and saw a mouse scurry across the lobby.

We toured then sampled 8 vastly different brews. The staff was great, the food was excellent as was the tour.

Been coming here 5 years. Only today met the first thing I didn't like. Swordfish strips. Way salty, and felt like I was chewing glass. Never had it before, so maybe it's normal? Either way, the manager immediately took it off our bill and stopped by to apologize and chat. Best customer service I think I've ever encountered. Place just opened, but waitress was on the ball. She noticed my companions dish wasn't perfect, and made it so before he even touched it. Well done, ABC!

Great service, great food, great beer! The outta focus was a great choice for an IPA and the coconut curry chicken was actually the spicy kind of hot! Call this frequent thai food lover impressed!

Was little overpriced. I liked the menu but wasn't alot of options for those of us vegetarian or People don t eat swine.

We had not been at ABC for a few years as we had been disappointed by the service and food. We gave it another try yesterday since we had a gift card. Food came out completely cold, we did not receive parts of the meal, and our server was inattentive.

Great food and service! Really neat facility and brewpub. Wide open and not cramped like others I've been to. They can host large groups or you can sit at the bar and order from the menu. Some foods are greasier than others, but the taste and quality are good.

First time here...beer was decent and the food and the service was amazing. Plus the building is really cool

Great food and vibe. Had Brian for my bartender who was such an awesome guy that made it a great lunch for me while out that way. I've been out a few times but he definitely made this visit the best.

BEWARE IF YOU HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES! Went to have a nice dinner with my boyfriend and his parents 11/30 at 4 PM. Food was great, and our waitress was wonderful, but then we ordered dessert. We ordered an elephant ear to share which was supposed to come topped with vanilla ice cream per the menu. A few bites in, we realized that the ice cream, while it looked like vanilla, actually tasted very similar to peanut butter. My boyfriend has a very severe peanut allergy which we made very clear when we sat down and double checked to make sure they didn t fry their food in peanut oil. We called the waitress over ( I forget her name, but bless her heart) to clarify why exactly it tasted like peanut butter. Turns out some new employee in the back decided it was okay to substitute their monkey butter ice cream when they ran out of vanilla. NOT OKAY ESPECIALLY WHEN PEOPLE CAN DIE FROM PEANUTS!! The waitress came back and immediately apologized, went to get the manager, who proceeded to avoid all eye contact with us until I physically stopped him as he walked by. Without talking to us he comped the dessert and my boyfriend s dinner. How about you comp the EPIPEN AND ER VISIT that resulted?! When I stopped him he apologized and said that he has a cat allergy so he understands . Really?!? HE DID NOT grasp the severity of what a food allergy can do besides making you a little sneezy and itchy- ANAPHYLAXIS and DEATH, for starters. PLEASE for the safety of others (and to avoid a lawsuit from potentially killing someone) TRAIN YOUR STAFF HOW TO BE SAFE WITH FOOD AND FOOD ALLERGIES!! You are playing with LIVES when the kitchen staff do not communicate food swaps!

Great beer! Great food! Whenever I'm in Harrisburg and want a bite and a good beer this is where I go. Never disappointed.

The location and atmosphere are great. They might be trying too hard with the menu. Of the three plates we ordered, it seems like the burgers are the best way to go.

This place is awesome! I would put them up against 4peaks and oggies from Arizona. The wings were huge! The burger was cooked exactly as I specified. The aero head Bock was delicious! Staff was friendly and courteous. Bathroom was clean. 10/10!!!!

The food was good, the craft soda was excellent, but the service was subpar. It took over an hour and a half to get food, and it was not busy in there.

Cool atmosphere with good food, great beer. They have plenty of parking too, which is rare in the city.

This place was awesome. What a cool environment! we would frequent here if it wasn't for the 5 hour drive (we were en rout to OBX). The service was kind, and the food was all anyone would expect for the presentation the place makes.

The waitress was nice but didn't know anything about the food on the menu and seemed like she was on too much valium. The food was bland. We had to wait a while to get our beers, napkins and sides. The restaurant was fairly empty so I'm not sure why everything took so long. We ordered a dessert and waited, and waited. We cancelled the dessert and waited for our check . A waste if time and money.

This place is awesome! My first time visiting and I was impressed. The building is beautiful inside and out. It is comfortable and not too loud. The staff is friendly and efficient. The beer is great and the food is not only delicious and creative, its plentiful. Prices are mid range for food that is top notch. I was very impressed as was my guest. Thanks Appalachian brewing!

Wonderful staff and great beer! The restaurant was clean and well kept. The beer selection was astounding.

It looks nice and the food tasted good, but as we were leaving we saw a mouse. When brought to the server s attention he chuckled and said they re throughout the building....they might want to get that checked out. We will NOT be going back.

Great place for a bite. Stopped here while driving thru town. Four people in the group. Didn't have to wait for a table. Everyone was very happy with the food ordered. Lots of beer selections for a brewery location. Not a huge menu selection but the food was all very good.

Got there about one, it wasn't busy. The service was very friendly and kind. I can see why they have so many good reviews.

This place is A-MAZ-ING!! The staff is super friendly and the menu selection is varied and awesome. The food was superb and served quickly. The atmosphere is comfortable and cozy without being too homely. The prices were more than fair. The next time I'm in Harrisburg, I'm definitely going back!

Microbrewery who? ABC is simply the best, my family and I have been coming here for 2-3 years now and what keeps bringing us back? Well first of all the food is blows away my expectations, everything is homemade. My personal favorite, The Original Harrisburger. The staff is also very friendly and the service is awesome. I highly recommend coming here as a local.

Who would have thought that ROOTBEER AND BBQ SUACE would be good together. It was totally great. I loved all the beers also. Great place. Awesome atmosphere and damn good people.

Joel is the greatest tour guide ever. We've taken this tour twice now and it keeps getting better. We love the tasting afterward, all the food is delicious and we learned a lot about the brewing process.

Bigger than I expected. Lots of seating and a huge bar on the first floor. Excellent food. There's an upstairs where live music acts play.

My last five visits to ABC have been horrible. I used to really like it there and I figured that maybe the rude service was just an anomaly. But after so many repeated instances I am going to have to pull the plug and stop patronizing them. Even when the place is all but empty, the staff will leave me waiting for around 15 minutes trying to flag them down. On top of that they are rude and behave as though a customer is the worst thing in the world. Several of them have even made rude comments about my guests and myself well within our range of hearing. I will not give them the opportunity to ruin my day again.

Excellent venue. Awesome place to have some food in really good beers. Staff was amazing in the history being told by the staff was also good. Would definitely visit again.

In town for business for a few weeks, like local brews, saw the reviews of the place and decided to take a trip to the place. Located in a really cool old building near down town, neat to see the brewing equipment through the bar. But that's about as good as it gets!! we tried several different brews which were very good, glasses dirty/stained though. We ordered the crab cakes and it came with broccoli and wild rice, the veggie tasted like it was cooked in fish water and the rice was as dry and hard as uncooked rice, no moisture added obviously in hours and it was only 8pm on a Friday night, now for the crab, it basically was crab meat lumped into two balls at dumped on the plate, no binder and not even heated, and it was full of scales, really bad, and I was really very unhappy. And to make matters worse we were sick to our stomachs for the entire morning on Saturday into the afternoon. Bad food? Bad taps? Both? Buyer beware! I have never posted anything ever before, but I felt super compelled to do so!!

So I'm not usually a review person unless service is spectacularly good or bad.

TLDR the service is terrible, the manager doesn't care, and the tater tots aren't as advertised. If you want to wait 2 hours to eat then this place is fine. If you want reasonable service go elsewhere.

I'm currently sitting at the table 2 hours after we got here shaking my head in disbelief. It took awhile to get seated but we got drinks at the bar so it was what it was. Our appetizers took a half hour to come out and then they came out wrong. The manager had no great response besides "well the kitchen is backed up and I wouldn't know if the original apps were wrong unless we made new ones". Not a great response after we've been waiting for a ridiculously long time. They then offered to comp dessert that we never intended to originally order with promises that our food would be right out. 20 minutes later they claimed that they were just waiting on fresh french fries. Another 10 minutes later the food finally came out. While my table mates said their food was fine mine came out completely lukewarm. Definitely not worth waiting for almost an hour. The food is fine. Not great. Not terrible. I do not recommend the tater tots as they have neither the cheese nor bacon that is advertised. We are now waiting for our desserts 15 minutes after the restaurant supposedly closed. Time to see how long we will be waiting this time. One of my table mates is a waiter and she's fairly certain the restaurant forgot to put our order in until we complained. It was not a great experience and we will certainly never be back.

I love coming here every chance I get. I enjoy the stromboli and IPA's. Worth every dime!

Beer was excellent with a wonderful wide variety of flavors and styles. My husband's burger was very good. It was flavorful and juicy my lasagna however was the special of the day and seemed like it was under a heat lamp or something as it was dry and lacking in tomato sauce. They did add in garlic toast wich was wonderful as well as the house salad and ranch dressing.

Crazy slow service, beer was way expensive, meal came out cold. Our waiter was nice, but that didn t make up for the mediocre meal. I probably won t come again. - I originally rated this two stars, but after thinking about how bland the food was I switched it to one.

Food was ok but overpriced for the quality, beer was decent, service was terrible. Unless you are a single guy, then the waitress will talk to you for ten minutes completely ignoring the needs of all other tables.
