For those of us who lived the 80's. Here the Jackson Five were born. It is located in the heart of Harlem. A very picturesque area to visit, full of shops and stores in the mythical afro district of NY

This is my second time at apollo. The first for amateur night and the second for Holidays in Harlem Gospel. This theater knows how to get the crowd enthralled. The orchestra and mezzanine seating are both excellent. No where in the oreshestra is too odd an angle - ever seat is good. I would aim for mezze center if at all possible. Pictures here are from dead center mezz.

The Apollo Theater is legendary. Do make it uptown to Harlem. It's actually not very far as you can take an express train there and most shows start early. One to definitely catch is Amateur Night on Wednesdays. It's just like what they used to show on tv but live in the flesh. Expect a range of talent from singing to dancing, all ages, and some not so talented. It's pretty funny and the energy will get you pumped. The theater itself is old, but restored, and in great shape. Lots of history in the place. You can feel it. Stay in town for a late bite. The whole area is pretty much gentrified and there is such great soul food around.

I came here for my cousins graduation. Coming to the iconic Apollo theatre for the first time was so exciting. Everything was great except for the fact that everything was extremely disorganized. The staff wasn t very helpful and the second it was over we were basically shoved out of the theater. It was happening so abruptly that people were dropping wallets and bags all over the floor. I tried to be understanding because there was another graduation after. But we had finished ours long before our a lot time was even over. So I didn t get what the rush was about

The NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK show was great (as they are amazing)- very surprised how small the venue was. They seemed to have a lot of technically difficulties- started late and had issues throughout the show. My personal issue made my trip not an overall success. I am hearing impaired and wear hearing aids - I called the day I ordered tickets to request a hearing impaired device. I was informed they did not have anything available. When I requested to speak with House Manager he informed me they did and would have one for me when I arrived- from Boston. I got to the show and was handed the device I am used to using- the only difference was it had Ear Pods (go inside your ears) 90% of hearing impaired people depend on aids. All other venues have standard headphones available- to go over the aids. Needless to say I was very upset and missed a lot of the show because I could no hear them. I spent a lot of money/time/travel to be at this event and was unable to enjoy the whole thing. Reminded me that my disability is a problem when it should not have been. Yes it as an OLD theater but technology should not have anything to do with that. I do hope this review helps them to improve for future guests.

I had so much fun at the amateur night at the Apollo! The crowd gets warmed up by the in house 'crowd warmers' until the house is on fire :-). The performances themselves were absolutely great and a pleasure to watch. And let's not forget that hanging out in such an iconic place as the Apollo Theater is an experience in itself. You definitely won't regret spending your evening at the Apollo!!

Absolutely amazing venue, very intimate yet large enough for big name bands. Three floors of seating means there's great viewing angles no matter where you get tickets, and the sound is some of the clearest ive seen. A+ definitely check it out if youre in the NYC area

We could not enter but it was not possible to fly over a visit to the outside of this temple of black music that made history in the world ..... I loved to see the names of my favorite singers in his wall off hunger ... ..Harlem is a neighborhood that leads you to another New York

They do well in preserving the historic significance of the establishment with modern twists in performances, with crowd and performer energy making it always a fun time. When I go, I feel as if I'm in another era, re-living a different time when amateur nights could make or break a career. I love it here
