ANIMAL HOUSE PET STORE Review

Hi, this is Cuatro. He just turned 16 and has been my best life companion all these wonderful years. He has kidney disease and only weighs 7.5 lbs because he doesn't eat much these days. I constantly try new fresh cooked meats, different canned foods, treats, Rx food...anything to keep some weight on his bony little body. He only eats paste type pates. Recently at Animal House they gave me a tube of paste to try. He loved it but it is not enough for a meal. Yesterday i was in the shop to buy more of the tube treats, Inaba. The woman checking me out (sorry I cannot recall her name) remembered me from buying the treats before. I mentioned that Cuatro hardly eats and is very picky about the texture of the wet food. She suggested a new product they have called Tikki Cat which is a box of packets of whipped meats and fish. A MINOR MIRACLE. He LOVES IT. He ate the entire packet! THANK YOU ANIMAL HOUSE PET CENTER. You listened to my concerns and provided a solution.

Decent selection of fish and fish related products (food, filters, medication, etc.). Unless you don't have access to the internet for some reason, don't go there and expect any useful advice from the staff regarding tank set up, identifying/treating illnesses, etc. The "fish expert" I dealt with had extremely little knowledge and extremely little interest in helping identify and recommend treatments for a sick betta.

Love this pet store. They even sometimes buy our sugar glider babies.

Awesome service and really friendly and knowledgeable staff. Had a good selection of all items at very reasonable prices. Picked upa bew bird we have been wanting. Named it Papaya. Would definitely go back and do business with this group.

Great stock of fish and supplies. Got a bunch of new fish to keep my knife fish company. As well as 70 ghost shrimp which he is devouring happily!!! No rejections,illness or issues a week later. Healthy happy fish

Open late and convenient but a little overpriced and probably associated with animal mills based on the bird program.

Local owned and operated, can't say any better than that. Very knowledgeable.

Worst customer service. They take in unwanted animals and resell them for a ridiculous profit. Someone who worked for them bought a bird cage from me and said the owner only cared about the money. Birds are kept in ridiculously small cages. The owner does not verify animal history. Go to Everything Birds in Oldsmar for much better service. Avoid Animal House Pet Center at all costs.
Response to owner: This is not false. I bought a bird from this terrible business as well and I am relating my personal experience.

Friendly staff. Knowledgeable. They trim our parrot's nails and wings for far less than the vet, and he is a real handful.

They are always super helpful and have a great variety of pet products to choose from

They have two cockatoos on site at the store, an Umbrella Cockatoo and a Sulfur Crested and the Sulfur Crested is not only a feather picker, but a self mutilator!! My husband and I watched him picking at this open sore on his breast and wipe the blood on his perch. These poor birds had almost no toys in their cage and were being fed a seed only diet. These birds deserve better than that and if this company can't provide it then they shouldn't have them!

This place has a good selection of Animal products for many different types of animals. Dogs, Cats Bird's and Rabbits as well as stuff for others. The store is small for the amount of selection there is. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. This is a store that I will return to.

I called Animal House and Alicia helped me. She was very nice & helpful over the phone. I was looking for ferrets & she told me that there would be some that day around 400 p.m. She took my name and number down and even called me back when they came in. I was so happy I did not purchase my ferret from Pet Safari in Largo. Animal House had a better selection and better customer service. I was glad Libby informed me about purchasing Marshalls premium food for the ferret as this is not only necessary for the Ferrets health but also to ensure the guarantee that Marshalls offers if anything should happen. I absolutely am so very happy with my new baby girl G.G. Thank you Alicia and Libby!!!

This is one stop for all your animal needs. They've got everything from mice and fish to large pigs. Very friendly staff, and very knowledgeable.

Animal House is an awesome place for pet essentials. We go there to get reptile food. Great place, great quality...highly recommended

Has lots of pet supplies. Including fish, birds and sometimes exotic pets like mini goats and such.

I love this place there a lots of special going on right now they are give animal shots. Now and there bathing and clipping there nail very inexpensive get in on the sale and pamper your pet's

Only giving 1 star because I can t rate them 0 stars. Worst possible place, the care of the animals is very upsetting. They have an African Gray baby bird that has been sold and is sick/dying. I questioned one gentleman about the health of the bird as it was laying down with its head in the corner of a FISH TANK with its tongue against the glass. The bird began to stand up and was was falling over. I asked to speak with a manager and a lady with curly brown hair came over to assist me with further questions. She told me a lot of people have been questioning the well being of the animal and she claimed it s normal behavior. Then proceeded to ask me if I ve ever seen birds in the wild. Which I have and they have never acted like the baby African Gray before which was incredibly lethargic. I believe there is a lot of mistreatment at this establishment and unknowledgeable individuals. I hope that people can take a moment to think about the animals before going and spending hard earned money at this store. They also had a baby goat who apparently had ear mites. Nothing was posted on his cage to inform customers. As a mom of 3 pets I was concerned as to if my pets at home could get the ear mites, which after research i found mites are highly contagious and even though rare, humans do have the ability to get infected. Sometimes you get a gut feeling that something just not quite right and that s the best way to explain Animal House.

I have been going to this pet store for years. I used to go when I was little with my mom but now I go on my own for my own pet needs. The staff is super friendly and willing to help which is nice. But the store has always had that grungy, dirty look.

What I have been MOST disappointed in seeing during my last two visits are the tarantulas set up. Their enclosures are extremely pathetic. They're spiders but they deserve to have their needs met just like all of the other reptiles and animals in the store. The substrate in each of their tanks need to meet what kind they would usually live on in the wild, they need to have adequate homes or logs to hide in for the types that need it. And for burrowing tarantulas they need to have enough substrate to burrow in. I talked with an employee today and asked him if anyone ever buys the tarantulas and he says they've been sitting there for months. They have about 10-15 in the store. From Mexican Red Knees, Skeleton Legs and even a Goliath Bird Eater. He feeds and waters them regularly but their living situations are miserable. I know tarantulas are a hard thing to sell, especially whey they have a Goliath Bird Eater, but they need to have the right enclosures, better prices and possibly information placards about each of the tarantulas to inform more people about them.

Besides that where they keep the rest of their animals (ferrets, puppies, the occasional goat) are the types of enclosures with cedar chip bedding, open tops for people to reach in and they're starting to mix animals together. I saw a goat and bunnies together in one small enclosure today. Which was already too small for the goat to begin with.

Over all I think this pet store needs a major remodeling. They need to redo the inside to get rid of the grunginess, better presentation of some of their animals with more information posted about them, better enclosures for everything and more space to properly house all of their animals.

This place is great. Beautiful selection of exotic birds, wide variety of pet food and accessories, everything you need from live hornworms to ferrets. Friendly, helpful employees.

So crowded in there. You can barely move around but they have a good selection.

They carry Fromm s dog kibble which I couldn t find at the other big name pet stores. And the greeting committee of birds are the added bonus!

It is a very good place!! (3 just compare it to petco, petco has hamsters for 15 or up!! Animal house has baby hamsters for 7.99! The calico hamsters are for 12.99. I honestly think it is a great place to go for pets

I love this pet store. Everyone is so helpful and pleasant. The animals are very well taken care of and the staff really treats the animals as their own. I have bought several pets and NEVER had a problem. If they don't have what you need, they will get it for you!

This is a terrible place and they are in terrible living conditions. . Most of there animals are under fed and they throw the dead ones out back. Its a terrible place and most of there staff is rude. I asked them why the gerbils I bought from them died in a couple of days and one of them laughed. Please don't go here even if its just to buy basic things like food as it will support their business :/ Not to mention the way they handle there animals is horrible they were holding gerbils by there tails (which can cause them to fall off ) and threw one of them against the tank.

What a great store. I just purchased a handfed cockatiel from the store and from start to finish all staff (especially the manager, Carlin, and one of the associates, Jess) were phenomenal. A few days in, I thought my little guy was having trouble breathing and when I called the store, Carlin immediately said bring him in. She gave him antibiotics at no charge and cared for him for several days before giving him back. They care here and that's a rarity in most pet stores.

Andrew is a GREAT dude. Put together an entire cat carrier for me as I was in a rush to get to my cats vet appointment.

What a wonderful big shop and it even has a small petting section for children or adults with lots of baby birds rabbits, ducks parrots, etc
find anything to make your pet happy, to eat or play with .9 Fish, snakes, turtles, lizards...
all are friendly and informed and you will fall in love with some critter !!

This is our number 1 pet store. We go here for everything we need. The staff is great! They are kind, helpful and informative. Plus they take good care of the animals and love what they do.

I got my pet tortoise here. The lady that helped me was super nice and informative. I ll definitely come back to this place cause they have a lot of things for pets.

Really like the animal selection here but some of the employees here are incredibly rude. Walked up to a women behind the counter and she put her hand in my face. Had another worker eyeball me, and once I made her uncomfortable with my eye contact, she sheepishly greeted me with a "hi." I would never purchase from here.

I love this place it is just a slight bit over priced for some things but it has alot so it truly is a one stop shop for all animal/ reptile / fish needs

This was my favorite place to go to as a kid, still my favorite place now.
