Cool ambiance with live music on a Saturday night. Great presentation and good quality food. They have a new chef from France and the quality shows. Pricey - expect to pay $50+ per person. Also, expect to have to endure pushy sales techniques for appetizers and desserts. But overall, it was a positive experience. I came in a group of 15 and they attended us well.

Here's what $125 (bottle of wine, and before the tip) gets you at Angell's:

1) A salad and entree served at the exact same time because "The kitchen is fast".
2) A 1/2" ribeye, when cooked rare, showed no signs of charring, only light brown. Turn your grills up or purchase thicker steaks, especially when I'm being charged $35 for said ribeye.
3) Oiled and limp vegetables as sides. Very soggy asparagus.
4) A Copper River Salmon that was exteremly dry and the only flavor was salt. We received 50% off this entree because it was so poorly cooked. Still $125 meal.
5) Some 120 lb. ginger who came out and pointed at the fish and said, "What's the matter?". We responded and he grabbed it and left. No other response.

Total garbage restaurant.

The worst service I had ever heard of! My son and his date (along with 6 other teenagers) waited 30 minutes for the appetizer and 100 minutes for the entrees on Prom night. Then, due to having a group of 8, the waiter said they still had to pay the tip. My son being inexperienced didn't fight it, but we will not be eating there ever and I can tell you this, many people are hearing this story at high school and at work. Angell's has lost quite a bit of business already due to this horrible experience and will be losing quite a bit more because this story will be shared over and over again.

It is true what they say that a bad experience will be shared with 10 times more people. Too bad Angell's treated my son and his friends this way. Not getting my business in the future.

I have had the breakfast buffet and both lunch and dinner at Angells. Of the three I enjoyed the breakfast the most but most recently had lunch. My Sandwich was a prefect prime rib au-juis and my wife had the Mandarin salad which she said was excellent. We were greeted at the door and our orders were taken with the food being served in 20 minutes or so.

The wait staff was a tad on the rookie side but made up for that with hustle. The decor was pleasant and the atmosphere was mellow. A nice retreat from the normal hectic lunch rush so common everywhere.

Why in the heck is this gem rated at 3.3??Angell's is the perfect Boise oasis right in the center of downtown business. Whether your in a full tuxedo or jeans, this place will deliver CONSISTENTLY 5 star service while making you feel right at home. Owned and operated locally for solely the passion of providing excellent dining and for the love of Boise in all its diversity. You won't go a meal without a good laugh and a warm greeting by people who LOVE to be there. Staff is well assessed by the ownership itself while being heavily trained alongside their knowledgeable, experienced staff. There's NO better place to have it all in Boise. Service, experience, passion, and local love.

Recently visited Angell's with a small party of four for dinner and drinks. We'd eaten here last fall shortly after the reopening and the experience was less than stellar. The patio music and atmosphere were great, but the food and service were both very poor. In fact, we only returned due to a member of our party insisting that we give it another try as they had heard from a friend that the restaurant had improved. I have to say that I'm glad we gave it a second chance...the service was excellent, though this may have been due in part to it being a slow night, and the food was outstanding. I had the shrimp scampi and my wife had the port loin and both were extremely tasty. If you had a bad experience here in the recent past (as we did) I'd recommend giving them a second chance. The patio is a great place to spend a summer evening and now it appears that the service and food are up to snuff as well.

My wife and I went on our anniversary. Service was very slow, did not get what we ordered and the potatoes were lukewarm. When we finished it took at least 15 minutes for them to bring us the bill and the waitress said we must be in a terrible hurry. Totally not impressed.

I used to work here. I loved my job until they decided to short my check $500 and hang up on me when I try to get it fixed. So I'm doing a review of the back of the house.

They are not up to par with food safety. I didn't even have a food handlers permit. Most of the time the handwash sink was blocked, or being used for something else. Aka your food. Nobody washes hands after smoke breaks. Food sits out, sometimes for hours, before being prepared.

Beware this restaurant.

I've dined at Angell's throughout the years and we won't be back. We arrived fifteen minutes early for our 6:15 reservation. The snooty waitress actually looked us up and down and put us in the back room on wire chairs. We were dressed nicely. I could understand if we were wearing jeans and sweatshirts. I guess it wasn't to her satisfaction. For a meal that cost $150, it seems that they could do better. I had music blasting in my ear on the porch from some crumby radio station while other diners in the front of the restaurant could listen to the musician they hired for their Valentine's Day dinner. The meal was okay. They couldn't light the cherries jubilie so they gave up. It tasted like 151 only. We won't be back. If they don't have room to seat people in the ambiance they are used to, don't accept additional reservations.

We went with family and reserved the wine room for a dinner after our wedding. The waitress that we had also had a big party outside and it seemed she decided to make them more important than us. We finally had to ask a manager if we could get our water refilled. My mom never got her food until after the rest of us were pretty much done eating. If you have kids, this is NOT the place to go. The have no kids menu or anything kids would remotely like to eat. The only thing close was a blue cheese pizza.....If you want a nice family dinner, I would choose somewhere that's geared toward families and not just adults with big wallets.

Service was slow, the only thing that was any good was my shrimp, and dessert, I was wondering what milk cow I got my steak from, no flavor and chewy, to expensive for the food I received, not impressed, probs will not go back

This place is one of our favorite restaurants! My husband and I have been going here for years. Recently they hired a new chef and have done some remodeling. We ate there last night on Friday and hands down this has been by far the best food and atmosphere we have ever had! We have always enjoyed their food with this new chef, Franck, really knows what he's doing. Monica was our waitress and she was amazing!! She has the perfect personality that you look for in a waiter or waitress. The ambience and live music was perfect as well. We definitely will be coming back more often thank you for such an amazing evening.

Nice atmosphere followed by professional service would make you think this is more then a three star restaurant. I recently spent a night with a group of friends and family at Angles. The restaurant is clean and the atmosphere what you'd expect from a restaurant like this. Our server was very nice and got everything correct. Food on the other hand was served cold and most of our dishes where very salty. I also found a small fly floating in my wine. For the price I would have rather gone to another restaurant.

Haven t been here is some time, but used to frequent this place often when I lived here. It had the Best calamari in the world! Did I happen to mention that the calamari was really good? Enjoy!

I was given a voucher for a free glass of wine or whatever, while at Live After Five on The Grove.
I attended with one old friend and three new ones. None of us were really dressed to suit the lovely surroundings. Regardless, the waitress was gracious, amenable and the drinks were great and generous, appetizers simply delicious. I've been to Angell's before on a date. That time I had a rib eye. I have not had better food in Boise and honestly it ranks with some of the finer restaurants in Houston. The ambience was charming. I will be back and next time will dress appropriately.

Went to Angell's tonight with my wife, for a kid free date night. We arrived to a surprisingly empty restaurant. We were seated outside per our request. To get to the point it took 45 minutes to get our appetizer, oysters Rockefeller, and then it took over an hour to get our meal. The food was disgusting, and as we waited for our check and finally went inside to close out the waiting staff was all at the bar taking shots together. So unimpressed!!!!! Let me guess another "off night"?

My favorite fine dining locale in Boise, we've been going ever 2-3 months for the last couple of years. The service is attentive but it's not somewhere to go when you're in a hurry. The filet is excellent as is their seafood selection and clam chowder, but whatever you do don't miss the chocolate bomb for dessert.

They have a good lunch menu too, at a reasonable $9-10 a plate.

First time posting a 1 star ever. Was shown a table and sat for 15-20min despite 3 attempts to just get a menu we gave up and left. Wasn't even very busy. Waitresses kept saying oh sorry be right back...

Angell's has a wonderful outdoor patio which makes it even more of a shame the meal was terrible. We received our salads - which were very good but 2 seconds later, the waitress brings out our entrees, with a cutesy remark that 'they are very fast today!'. Hello?! Can I finish one course before the next? SO my entree was cold and the most tasteless salmon I've ever had. The only thing you tasted was salt and did I mention how dry it was? Yuck. Oh and the Asparagus - most floppy thing you've ever seen. Disgusting. My partner's meal wasn't much better - a $35 1/2 inch steak? How do they feel right about selling that? Angell's should be ashamed of charging what they do for their food. Sloppy.

Probably the worst service and food I have ever had. The service staff must have been hired the day before. I was not even acknowledged when I walked in the door and had to seat myself. I never did get the drink I ordered for my wife. I also had to borrow utensils from the guy next to me. My steak mas overcooked on one end and raw on the other and to top that, cold! The vegetable was warmer than the meat and potato mousse. All this and it took over two hours to get served. They screwed up the whole experience. Wow!

This was the worst Thanksgiving brunch we've ever experienced. The turkey was dry as hell, their seafood smelled rancid and it their desserts sucked. It wasn't cheap either. It was also dark as a bat cave. The staff was nice though. They won't be getting our hard earned money again.

Reservations for 7:30 on the patio to celebrate our anniversary /last day of school. 8:20, the bartender-in-training found us an inside table, while we observed the owner seating newcomers on the patio. Planned on appetizers, dinner, desserts and drinks...settled for tapas and a glass of wine...only because we had a gift certificate to use. Otherwise, we would have walked out.

My wife and I went here for our Aniversary. The atmosphere was great. Low, but still audible music playing. Soft lighting for a great ambiance. We had a reservation and were seated within a couple minutes of arriving.

The hostess who seated us returned with the waitress and introduced her (classy). The waitress asked if we wanted to start with drinks, and was promt to return with water and our beverages. The waitress asked if we had been there before, and we answered that we had not. She offered suggestions for an appetizer and also asked us if we would like to know more about the establishment. Out of courtesy, I asked for a short history. Her "speech" lasted all of about 2 minutes, just enough to give us basics, but not bore us.

We took one of the suggestions for the appetizer. I ordered a steak, and my wife ordered salmon. The waitress asked if we would like any wine. I asked her if she had any suggestions to go with the salmon as my wife likes wine, but I do not. The waitress recommended a white wine, but suggested a particular one and then proceeded to bring my wife a sample of the wine. My wife liked it enough to ask for a glass. The appetizer was brought out shortly after, followed by salads, and then a short wait for the main course. All the food was simply amazing both in taste and presentation.

My wife likes her steak well done, and I usually order it medium rare. Even though my wife didn't care for the way the middle of my steak looked, she agreed to try it and she said it was really good (even though it wasn't cooked the way she liked it). I thought the steak could not possibly any better - it was PERFECT! Seasoned just right, cooked so that there was 3 colors with a nice rich dark pink in the middle. She then let me try some of her salmon - DELICIOUS!

The waitress checked on us once on her way back from another table to ask us how the food was. Then stopped a second time when she noticed our drinks getting low and asked if I wanted another beer and my wife if she would like more wine. I declined the beer as I was driving and ordered a Sprite, while my wife said yes to a second glass of wine. The waitress was back in a flash with our drinks. You couldn't ask for better service.

The check was a little pricey, but for the service, food and atmosphere; I wouldn't hesitate to go back. I was so impressed with this place, I left a 30% tip.

In my opinion this place is the epidomy of "fine dining" in Boise.

They made us sit outside and the heat! Then we ordered two glasses of wine from two different waiters, and we watched both of them go help other tables. Definitely ignored. After waiting 25 minutes for WINE, then ordering food, we walked out. Not worth the wait!

"You should be ashamed"....that's what I would have said to the owner of Angell's last night. Hands down this was the worst dining experience I have ever had in Boise. We booked a company party of only 14 people and expected to spend ALOT of money on very nice food and be taken care of by a crew of experienced wait staff. Instead we were given what appeared to be a 15 year old rookie waiter who quite obviously struggled to handle the workload that was given to him. The bar-staff was no better either. Earlier in the evening as our party began to arrive, the bar tender (who was absent for over 10 minutes upon our arrival) was asked what beers he had on tap. It seemed he didn't care to enlighten us or he had no idea what he was serving, so he just told us to "look at the list". He then walked away to retrieve ONE beer and never took anyone else's order. SERIOUSLY !!! Later that evening....much much later, we received our meals and they were ALL COLD...nasty cold!! Steaks were burnt on the outside and chilly raw throughout. We were all so starved from waiting an hour and a half to eat that most of us choked down what we were given. Then just to top off the evening, the "kid" waiter only brought out two drink tabs at a time??? Everyone there just wanted to pay their tab and leave!!! Miserable miserable miserable experience. It is my understanding this restaurant was shut down once before....It should have stayed that way!!!!!

7 o'clock on a Friday night, no reservations, no problem. Surprised to get a table really. So glad we did. I had the scallops, she had the filet. Started with salads. The scallops were spot on. A bit of gold on the outside and you could cut them with a fork unlike other places in town (*ahem* Matador *ahem* (I mean really Matador what would Gordan say?!)). The scallops were served over an I don't know, nostalgic, puree of chiles, beets and other root vegetables that made me wonder if October shouldn't have it's own special feast day like November and December do. If that puree was available in bottles I am sure I would have bought a case of it. Or figured out how to steal the recipe. There were a few amusing slices of hubbard squash that I used as a sort of palate cleanser in between bites when I just wanted to lean back into the booth and sip prosecco. Speaking of the prosecco, our waiter had the misfortune of a hot bottle. Hey, it happens. Next time it happens, I hope he remembers to use a cloth napkin to contain the spill. That napkin on the arm isn't just for show you know. Drape it over the top of the bottle when you cork it, and that little bubbly fountain will get caught. Anyways, no one got messy, no one got hurt. I was lucky enough to sneak a few bites of the filet, and it was perfect medium rare, and had a neat sort of charred flavor on the outside that belied the overall tenderness. Very tasty. The waiter even gave us a free creme brulee! He must have felt bad about the prosecco. I don't order bubbly much, but that was not the first time a have seen a bit of spill on the table. The gesture was appreciated, but I hope he didn't feel bad about the spill. Like I said it happens. Anyways, Angell's was perfect. Really. We will be back.

We had a group dinner last week that went wonderfully. Monica was our server. We have had her as our server before not too long ago. She was one of the main reasons we had our party there. She was great and her recommendations were spot on. A lot of us had the steak on the rock which was superb! We were in the wine room. Wonderful! Thanks Monica and thanks Angells!@.

We had our company dinner here last night and I was very excited, unfortunately the dining experience left a lot to be desired. The waitstaff was very inexperienced and took FOREVER to get drinks and never got a re-fill on my soda even after asking. Dinner was very cold, (the dish, if served hot, would have been amazing) my husbands steak was a ball of meat that was charred burnt on the outside and cold raw in the middle, (he didn't eat it) and we made our hour and a half drive back home with nearly empty bellies. The restaurant is elegant looking and has great potential, however at 25-35 dollars a plate and 9 dollars a drink it seems to me as that a much more experienced wait/cook staff could be attained.

We went for St. Pattys Day and had an absolute blast! Chef Franck and the owners are awesome, and the Irish, French, and German fare were all phenominal. Chef Franck is extremely gifted, we will defintely be back!

We reserved the wine room for 6pm and had a concert to go to by 8pm. We have a group of 8 and We told this to the waitress but by 7:50 and we had not been served yet!!
They ran out of one of our appetizers, after the waitress forgot that we had ordered it. The food arrived at 8:05 and you would think that if you order Steak, you would get a Steak knife. Two of our party ordered Steak, and neither one of us got a Steak knife with our meal... Even after we got our knives, the Steak was SO tough!!! we ate two bites and asked to have our left overs wrapped up so that we could leave and try to make our holiday concert. Also the live music they had was WAY too loud!!
Two hours of shouting conversation with my co workers, snacking on the few other appetizers that they DID bring and then rushing out late does not make a pleasant evening...
We complained to a manager and the meal was comped, but the overall experience was negative. We missed half of the holiday concert we paid for and were going to...

Saw Angell's Bar & Grill's First Thursday promotio...

Saw Angell's Bar & Grill's First Thursday promotion (Buy One, Get One Appetizers) and decided to give it another try, though we've been disappointed in the past. It was actually much, much worse than it was 6 months ago and 2 years ago (our previous two visits).

The Oysters Rockefeller, considered their "signature dish", were sludgy and fishy tasting. There was brown, muddy residue left in the oyster shells. Our calamari was undercooked- some pieces were even raw in the middle. The lamb skewers were fine, but we only got two. The escargot was far from tasting as escargot should- not nearly enough garlic and butter, as it's traditionally served. I also got a wedge salad, which was essentially one heart of romaine with some crumbled, store-bought bacon bits and bleu cheese thrown on top.

After much debate (we really just wanted to leave), we decided to tell the waiter our calamari was undercooked. He took it back to the kitchen, then returned to tell us that the kitchen essentially told him to tell us that's just how they cook it. We told the waiter we've had calamari many times, and it never should come out with raw parts or pieces. He agreed with us and apologized, but said there was nothing he could do. We then admitted that none of the food was really good at all, and that we didn't appreciate the kitchen being so obstinate. We shared that we had actually had the Oysters Rockefeller at Angell's before (as well as other, better restaurants) and they had most certainly not tasted this poorly then. The waiter took this back to the kitchen, and they sent him back with the response that we must have liked them more than we said since we ate them all. My husband pointed out that there had only been three, and we had each tried one, and then he had given them a second chance. I even admitted I'd heard two tables next to us complaining to each other about the taste of the oysters as well- I had just been naive enough to think they didn't have a palette for oysters! The waiter finally admitted that the kitchen had basically told him, "What do they expect? They're Buy One, Get One Appetizers."

We requested that the calamari and oysters at least be removed from our bill, but all the waiter could comply with was a free (frozen) cheesecake and a $10 gift card. We promptly used the gift card to help pay the check, as there is absolutely no way we'll be giving Angell's another chance. We did leave our waiter Zack an additional tip though as he was very nice and unfortunately had his hands tied working with an obstinate and complacent kitchen staff.

My wife and I were planning a date night and had received a voucher in the mail for this place. After reading the reviews about this place we were hesitant at first, but eventually decided to go and give it a shot.

Well that was a mistake. Where do I begin? We walked in on a Saturday evening around 6:30 and the place was practically empty on the main entrance side. We walked in and no one even acknowledged us being there until I walked up to the bar where some of the employees were sitting and asked for help. A lady came over and asked if we had reservations, which we didn't, but why would anyone make a reservation for this place??

She sat us down and our waiter came to the table a few minutes later. I ordered the lamb and my wife ordered the duck. About 45 minutes after we ordered the entree the waiter came and told us that someone else had ordered the last duck breast and that we'd have to order another item. That was insane they couldn't relay this information earlier considering how slow it was that night. Also, the table next to us waited an hour and a half to get their food which they immediately sent back to the kitchen. Angel's made them late for the hockey game and they were understandably pissed.

So to top all of this off we finally get our food about an hour and half after we sat down and the lamb I ordered was raw in the center. The vegetables were basically rubber and cold, but the mashed potatoes were decent. (it's Idaho after all) So after a few bites and discovering the raw center I gave it back to the waiter who was embarrassed and apologized. He came back a few minutes later and said they couldn't comp us for the lamb, luckily we had the voucher otherwise I think we would have just walked out.

Avoid this place like the plague. I'm letting all my friends and family know, plus people at my work to never set foot in this place.

Oh and if the owner responds, you should probably stop apologizing to everyone on here and fix your restaurant!

I held my fiance's birthday party here. We had a group of about 20 people. Everyone was pretty satisfied with their meals and drinks. The service was OK, but many of us agreed, that if we're going to pay that much for food and drink, we expect the service to be over-the-top. I will dine there again.

We were a party of 10 for dinner and drinks. Our waiter couldn't have been more congenial and accommodating. The Salmon was outstanding along with the soup, salad and dessert. We all had the house wine which ended up being exceptionally good. Overall, we all agreed we would do this again and soon.
