Here's a review of my experience with AncestryProgenealogists. My project, S41373, began Jun 2019 and was estimated to be of duration 2-4 months. The project was completed Aug 2020, 14 months later. I submitted a detailed "Post Mortem" of the project to AncestryProgenealogists' "Director of Operations" for review. Here's a brief summary of our correspondence (email/phone):
Sep 28, 2020. I submitted the "Post Mortem" to the Director of Operations for review.
Oct 9, 2020. The Director of Operations said, "At this point, it makes the most sense to process a refund in the amount of $2,575, which means that you would only pay for the 5 hours of research time you reference in your email. If you re comfortable with this resolution, let me know and I can initiate the refund." My reply, the same day, was to accept the refund; I provided my mailing address.
Nov 28, 2020: My email to the Director of Operations: "I haven't yet received the refund discussed below. Has it been mailed or is there some other action, on my part, that needs to be completed? Please advise."
Dec 16, 2020: I phoned AncestryProgenealogists and spoke to the "associate" who was a previous contact at the start of the project, back in Jun 2019. The "associate" indicated that a check had been mailed to me on Dec 11, 2020, for the amount $2,575.
Dec 18, 2020: Email from the Director of Operations: "My deepest apologies! I flagged your email to follow up and it somehow got lost in my inbox. Your check has been issued and if you haven t received it yet, you should shortly. I apologize that it s taken so long to get to you. If you don t receive in by the end of next week, please let me know."
Dec 31, 2020: My email to the Director of Operations: "As of today, I still haven't received the refund check that was purportedly sent to me on December 11, 2020, for the amount $2,575."
Jan 26, 2021: I have not received the $2,575 refund that was offered and accepted on Oct 9, 2020. Also, I have not received a response to my email, to the Director of Operations, dated Dec 31, 2020.

Jan 27, 2021: AncestryProgenealogists responded to this review as follows: "Thank you for your feedback and for bringing this to our attention. We sincerely apologize for the delay in processing your refund. The check has mailed and you should receive it any day. You should have also received a response to your email from your operations manager today."
Jan 27, 2021: Email from the Director of Operations: "I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I checked in with our accounting team, and the confirmed that the check was mailed on January 21. You should receive it any day now. If you don t get it within the next week, please let me know and we can pursue a stop payment and potentially look at other ways of getting your funds to you. I apologize that this process has taken so long and that I was so late to respond."
Jan 29, 2021: I received the refund, for the agreed upon $2,575, today.

Be careful with this company, they might not be a good fit. I don't want to ding or praise this company because they didn't want to work for me. That is their prerogative. But be careful, if they DO want to work for you, the cost is simply breathtaking. My quote went from $2,500 to $25,000 in two phone calls. They get three stars simply for being in business, I hope they work for you.
