A great theatre which is not afraid of taking risks.
Used to have a lot of issues with their online booking system but that was changed recently and haven't had an issue since.
An intimate theatre with a nice cafe bar. The staff are friendly and the shows are well managed. A bit of a treck from Highbury & Islington tube station, though.
Great theatre innovative productions highly recommended.
leaves you dangling for half an hour, then as you get to the front pops up a window saying "Sorry" then suggests you call them on their premium rate number.
The performances from the actors are always excellent, so definitely go to the Almedia! But the scripts can be quite variable, from the OK to the brilliant. The cafe bar gets very busy before a show, but there are lots of alternatives on Upper Street. (Be careful with the first few rows in the stalls, as there's either no or little rake there.)
The best theatre experience in London with the best location
Totally outstanding production the other day. Great atmosphere in the (almost) round.
Intimate theatre. Comfortable and such a treat to see this quality locally.
Was lucky enough to catch their production of Richard III this summer while visiting London and was completely blown away. Amazing production in a beautiful and intimate location. Hope to visit again soon!
Didn't know this theatre was here but had a great time
excellent theatre venue in North London and some great shows there check what's on.
Have seen a lot of great theatre here. As with most theatres could do with more loos!
Great, small theatre with concessions for students and under 25 s. Easily accessible location between two tube stations.
I've been here quite a few times. Always a mixed bag. I've walked out halfway through two of the last three things I've seen as they were pretty bad. They specialise in 'Its loud=drama"; "child actor= emotion." Some good acting but very safe interpretations. Staging can be good and innovative. Seating is squashed and plays often go over three hours so not the most comfortable theatre experience. The spirits they serve are not measured and tiny. Certainly not 25 ml! I think they can challenge themselves and the audience a bit more but hey that's only my opinion.
Nice plays and easy to access. Beautiful area as well
One of my favourite theatres in London. Amazing productions in an intimate and engaging space. Must see
Great sightlines and great productions - only problem is the lack of seating in the lobby area.
5 Star performance of ALBION. With free Q&A after the show. Worth getting home late for.
Fantastic small intimate theatre. We have gone to 3 of the shows this year and I have greatly enjoyed all of them. After living in the area for 4 years we try and get to everything the theatre puts on. Some of my highlights have been Mr. More
Staff are amazing. Theatre is so cozy and all seats have a good view. Lovely area too.
Lovely theatre with many great shows at reasonable prices.
Spectacularly good productions, every time we have visited. Keep an eye on this place!
Consistently great with Rupert Goold at the helm. Some of the best new work in town.
Always a specially intimate space where so much happens. It'll always generate a sheen and scent of its own. One of my very favourite theatres - and I see many productions each year from a wide range of venues. Oh and the best idea for a play of mine came as I left the Almeida...
Love the place! Great theatre. Great productions. Fantastic venue.
Bad day turned good. I was headed down to the Almeida restaurant upon my arrival it was closed i saw the Almeida theatre cafe across and popped in there, have never been before and didn't think much of it at first. Nice calm relaxing artsy environment was a lovely way to spend my afternoon. My hunger got the better of me and I was not disappointed the food was some of the best I've had upon upper street. So glad the restaurant was closed I've found my new day time spot. Hoorah
Have sat in the upstairs seats here twice, and the view was perfectly fine. The bar isn't too expensive, but it can get a bit crowded (plan on having post-show drinks somewhere else).
Great theatre space. Not too big so that you can see actors' faces.
Lovely intimate theatre with very pleasant bistro bar.
Lovely theatre, tucked away in North London. Recently saw they drink it in the Congo there!
Wonderful atmosphere, easy access to bar. The theatre mixes modern reception with a more rustic stage, intimate viewing and perfect view of interesting performances. Loved it.
The treatment is a postmodern play. Very contemporary. A good Satire.
Superb production of Richard II but Almeida badly designed in that you have to go outside for a great many seats no way to use coat check therefore if pouring with rain (it was) so you sit with yer soaking coats. Same for lavatories and far too few in main lobby for a full house (it was) . Bar badly staffed too ages to have drinks brought whereas could have been served at bar!! And lobby most unwelcoming of any theatre. You might say well it's not the West end but it is West End prices.
A great little place to see a show and in the middle of town.
Great intimate theatre with well stocked bar and friendly box office staff.
A beautiful theatre, with lots of new, upcoming and incredibly creative plays.
Amazing play and production. Modern and nice space. Be aware that some seats have slightly restricted view due to the structure of the building
Nice theatre, some incredible programming, it would be 5 if they invested more in their young performers, by giving them proper budget and marketing support.
Intimate theatre about a 10minute walk to Highbury and Islington tube station. Good leg room and good views to stage from upper level. Seat width a bit narrow and I'm an average size female. Saw Machinal which I enjoyed but my partner-in-crime did not. Lots of funky bars and restaurants nearby for post-show.
Good location, just off Upper Street. Love the bar with excellent wines and small plates.
Probably the best place to experience extraordinary theatre in London.... The Doctor is 5 stars and more....
Always providing an enjoyable theatrical experience
Been to see The Twilight Zone today. It was a terrible piece of self indulgent theatre. Very slow and boring. Lot of grumbling from the audience as we left.
Intimate theatre with a wide range of socially conscious plays. Leg room can be a little tight, especially in the circle. The bar handles the large crowds well. Often a famous face in the audience!
Beautiful, innovative, contemporary plays and staging. And very friendly staff.
Lovely little theatre about ten mins walk from Angel tube.
Great place, great atmosphere, great actors. The place is surounded by many pubs and restaurants and is in a posh location.
Favourite theater in all of London. Intimate and lovely cafe for a wine before, during, and after!
Very nice cafe and bar if you avoid theatre open and close times. Quality coffee, food and booze. Bar staff are friendly and good loos as well. Recommended if you are in the area
Good venue though the restricted view seats are VERY restricted so we missed a few of the jokes and the play. Super production though. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Nice theatre, if a little out of the way. Have seen a few good shows here, but Lies was an unusual experience that I would not repeat. Rehearsed monopoly where they force you to sit and play with strangers (purposely splitting groups who arrive together), and 5 of the 7 people on my "team" never got the hang of the rules, and the 6th refused to play 4 out of 5 rolls of the dice. I feel like if they advertised the way the experience worked in advance either people would be more inclined to participate or only the people who want to participate would bother to attend. 2/5 for a live action wall street style crisis. 5/5 for the venue and staff generally. I averaged the rating to 3/5 stars!
booking system is a shambles. thrown out of system just as being redirected to website for newly-released mary stuart tickets. was walking my way onto the website and now have 382 people ahead of me. what a farce. have screen shot as proof. maybe next time get house in order before going live...or at least don't try to be gimmicky with this online malarkey. what fools we are and what a waste of a friday afternoon...
For those who want to see quality theater just outside Soho. We saw the Twilight Zone. Several small pieces presented in each other. They had taken good care of the slightly eerie atmosphere. Very well performed!
Great performance: Tennessee Williams "Summer and Smoke".
Love the intimacy of this theater. It made the show feel larger than life.
Not my usual theatre but well worth a visit. Will be returning.
Every production at Almeida is worth watching. Loved Oil, Boy and the DRC productions.
Simon Russell Beale is a Fantastic King Richard II at Almedida!
Not only the play was astonishing (The Duchess of Malfi) but the venue itself is beautiful, comfortable and the sound is just amazing. One of the best theatres I have ever been!
We saw a fabulous play on the 5th of March!!
A very quaint theatre!!
One of the best off West End theaters in London. The performances are always outstanding and it is small and cozy. Most of the seats, even the cheap ones, have a good view as the theater is so small. If you have a chance to see something here be sure to do it.
