I had a falling out with this company. I worked for them for ...~5 months, give or take. This was years ago - upwards of 6-7 years, maybe more? 80% of the paychecks they wrote on a payday Friday bounced and didn't clear until the following Monday or Tuesday. Imagine being on salary for $33,500 before taxes and have to figure out a rubber paycheck every week. The co-owner, Mike (who for the record was a great teams manager and overall cool dude) would have to borrow money from relatives to float payroll.
One Friday (pay day) I was told I couldn't be paid due to their financial struggles but I was still required to chauffeur the co-owner to his wedding or I would be let go from my job. Something outrageously outside of my job description. I stood the proper ground and said I would do it if I was paid that night. They put my money (in cash) in the flap of a gas tank outside the house I would drop the vehicle off to ......and shorted me $7.34. The day I was let go I was required to do an installation at the same owners brand new house. After finishing I was directed to head to the office. I pushed back a little bit and said I hadn't gone to lunch. I was "allowed" to go to lunch at 2 pm. Then called to the office miles away, and fired on sight. One last piece of cheap labor I guess?
I want to fully disclose that I was let go for having two beers with a sales leader on lunch on a Friday and venting about the lack of leadership in sales and my concerns about behavior around the office. I was let go because this person I had a beer with went to high school with the same owner who threatened my job if I didn't chauffeur him. I literally with my own eyes watched their lead tech (who had overnight control of their company vehicle) do Meth while we are on a job on 6th street. I proclaimed during my "exit interview" that they had their sights on the wrong person, but I refused to mention names. This fell of deaf ears.
I promised both of them not to take them to court or file unemployment because they wouldn't survive it.
@Allied I looked you guys up because I was reviewing my resume - there's no reason you should still be in business. None. And, if you want to argue what I've written here - only one of us will end up a liar.
Close your doors.
