One of my favorite breweries so far. I've tried a good amount in San Diego and where this one isn't the biggest, its definitely one to watch. I'm a sucker for a good IPA and some clever names and this place is great for both. The one that I fell in love with was the Horny Devil. Like WHAT? who names that? But you have to try it and they have a great IPA on Nitro at certain times. ITs DELISH. the people are super chill, they give you the wifi code, and have some awesome specialized coasters.

If you come with a big group you're going to want to come early but if you wanna come with a friend or two have a couple beers or tasters and some good conversation, this is a place to go.

Happy Drinking!

Most of the staff is helpful and knowledgeable, only one was stuck up about beer. The place is large, has a hidden room for special aged beers and is a good spot for any loyal San Diego beer fans.

Great atmosphere, even better beer. Alesmith is a San Diego staple and when you come here its not hard to see why. They make great use of the space, it bleeds Padres, and parking is rarely an issue. Also while popular it doesn't get so crowded you need to call an audible upon arrival (unlike some other local spots). If you are hungry there is usually a food truck on the patio.

Unique beers, and good size tasting room, they are currently expanding, so looking forward to the new space.

Update from May 2, 2018:
First time back since they completed renovations, and wow - very nice job folks!

In Short: This place is huge!
In Detail: When you first enter, they have store to your left, then the walkway opens up to a spacious gathering room on the right. Couch, a bunch of high barrel tables, and a long bar that wraps around the tap stations. At the far end they also have a Tony Gwynn Museum. Then past that, a speakeasy private tasting room - and next to that a private room for events. In addition tasting/gathering space on the patio with generally a food truck for snacks. And! to add to the space - they have a second story space with tables and taps (which was not open at the time of my visit).

I would say this is a great location for beer hours and socializing with friends and peers - feels very open and spacious. I didn't call it happy hour because i'm not really sure they do anything special for happy hour, and if they do - it wasn't immediately known. Decent price tasters and pours however.

Staff was friendly and helpful with beer questions and tastings, so tip them well.

First time there and I was well impressed with my visit. The place was fairly full of friendly patrons and the staff was attentive and quick. I tried four tasters of Imperial Stout and was pleased with all of them. I'll be going back with a growler.

The best brewer in San Diego! Consistently great craft beers in all styles. The Thai Speedway Stout is one of my favorites as well as the Wee Heavy. Check out the 'speakeasy' room for barrel aged and other goodness.

Pros: nice ambiance, very spacious, great space for kids and dogs, friendly service, plenty of parking and convenient location.

Cons: no food except for food truck, limited options.

This place would be awesome 5 stars if they offered food!

Disappointed with the flights. Most of the beers in them were just ok. The imperial and barrel aged beers are the way to go here, although even those weren't as good as we had hoped. Check out reviews on Untappd for recommendations.

They serve beers and even beermosas and Micheladas on Sundays! Their micheladas were good. Nice, sour and spicy... like a Bloody Mary. I like their horny devil because it's strong AF. Plenty of parking and a nice patio with daily food trucks.

Update, December 2018: easily the best beer in San Diego. This place is amazing.

These guys have some amazing beer. Their scotch ale is highly recommended. Wish they had some snacks to go with the beer.

Great beer location. Offer venue rental. Beer(so much good beer to taste). Corn hole. Food trucks. Lots of outdoor/indoor seating. Fun people working that know about good beer. Would say this is a stop to make.

A must if you are in the area and love a great brew. Besides the fantastic place and beer, bartenders duo Bill and Daniel were phenomenal. It was so refreshing meeting someone with such awesome personality and a wealth of knowledge. Loved it here!!

Excellent brewery - nice vibe. Always an interesting food truck option outside. Warren was super friendly and had excellent suggestions for thoughtful flights we would not have chosen without his prompting but enjoyed immensely. Back to being dog friendly after a brief covid pause. Military discount. This is one of my favorite places to bring visitors.

Alesmith makes my favorite beer of all time. Their Oktoberfest beer is amazing. Everyone who works there is super nice and just as excited about different styles and flavors of beer as I am. Honestly I've been there more than 20 times and I've literally never had a bad experience

Great venue with amazing beer. They have tons of limited AleSmith brews that are hard to find elsewhere. Plenty of seating with a nice outdoor siting and eating area. The food truck smelled delicious and there was a ton of people eating the food.

Two words: Barrel. Aged. Their offerings are phenomenal. If you're like me, you enjoy vertical tastings of unique barrel combinations. AleSmith delivers on multiple fronts with Strong Ales, Stouts, and Belgian-styles. This is my number one spot in San Diego--an area ripe with wonderful breweries!

Alesmith is Second to none when it comes to San Diego craft breweries. Peter has a top notch operation that shines at the pinnacle of what a locally owner and operated business can do for the community. I was first introduced to Craft Beer via an Alesmith Anvil and never looked back. Alesmith was my first craft brew and remains my favorite all time brewery to this day. If you have not visited, please make some time and go by and pick up some beer.

This place was huge from the outside, it doesn't appear to have near the amount of room this bar has on the inside. The food is catered by multiple good food trucks in the courtyard. And I highly recommend picking up some of the mid West cheese curds from the gift shop. The cheese curds were by far the best cheese curds I have ever had! I would return to this place just for the curds. And a museum dedicated to the great Tony Gwynn! And Bar games, Corn hole galore! You will have a great time!

The bartenders are very knowledgeable about every beer. You can try a splash of anything to see if it's something you'd like to buy. I personally liked the nut brown and decadence. Decadence is sweet but a very strong beer. Definitely recommend stopping by!

This is a great place with good beer and a really chill atmosphere. The food trucks are really good and the beer list is expensive, so a quick drink can easily turn into an all evening thing! We also rented out the loft for a wedding here and the staff was very accommodating and it made for a very fun and private experience. So whether you're going for some drinks with friends, or have a large party and want to make an event or of it, this is one of the best places to go in the Miramar area

Beer Mecca. Huge open spaces to lounge around in. Patio area with outdoor seating and quite upstairs area. Smaller enclosed "dugout" and beer cave rooms. 2 food coaches on the weekends. Also have a Tony Guinn museum to go along with their awesome .394 pale ale. Extensive collection of barrel aged stouts and old ales.

Love this place, but it's typically hot as hell in Miramar. The outdoor space is pretty, but virtually unusable during the day - that's when the inside gets crowded. Great beer, lots of IPAs. Reliably good food trucks.

This new location is awesome! I've been here several times now and I love that it's so spacious and they always have 2 food trucks on the weekend days. I was here during SDBW and I was quite surprised at the speed and ease of access to the bar. I also really enjoy the outside patio area near the food trucks because it's great to sit outside and have a beer when the weather is nice (and let's be real, when ISN'T it nice outside in SD??). The beers are always fresh and delicious here, it's one of my favorite breweries in SD! I will be returning for sure.

Terrible attitude, their policy sux. They kicked me out after I dared to drink the beer they sold me in one of their biggest bottles. They confiscated my beer and told me that I had to leave. Extremely disappointing! Can't comment on the beer, barely had a few sips! Nazis!

We got a couple flights, and the beers here were all awesome. They have a large selection of their own craft brews, so you're sure to find something you like.

Food is provided by food trucks outside near the patio. We didn't try anything, but the food we saw others eating looked pretty good. The emphasis here is on the beer, and food is more of a convenience for those who want a small bite.

The location is really nice. There's a large patio outside, and large bar inside. Tables and high tops are scattered about for groups. Everything is new and modern. The space feels open and is great for conversing over a brew. There's also a large counter to buy merchandise like t-shirts, mugs, etc.

Service was quick and hassle free, as it should be.

Long-time anchor of excellence in San Diego craft brewing. Great selection of beers, from IPA to stouts and sours and everything in between. Their barrel-aged Speedway Stout series is incredible!! Ask about the hidden speakeasy for the rarer barrel-aged stouts with a variety of barrel liquor types and coffees. Food trucks provide the food--good stuff!! Not your father's food truck.

My favorite craft brewery here in San Diego. Their tasting room is on the smaller side, no food (but will host the occasional food truck) and standing room only. Alesmith is most well known for their higher gravity (alcohol) beers such as their award winning Speedway Stout which incorporates local Ryan Bro's coffee. They do sell bottles and growlers to go and is one of the easier breweries to obtain a keg from with proper notice.
