This place is amazing! You can tell how loved and well cared for all the birds are. Every one who works here was happy to show us around and answer any questions we had. It was so much fun and we learned a lot.

Beautiful! Also, as someone in the animal industry I was very impressed with the seclusion and size of their enclosures. If I had to be a captive bird, I'd want to live here. Great mix of trails and wildlife.

Really the only place around to take injured wild birds. I have taken multiple injured birds here--a Cormorant found on the side of the road, a Barred Owl injured in a nearby backyard, Red-shouldered Hawk and Red-tailed Hawks. An American Woodcock after it collided with a downtown building. The staff and volunteers do a tremendous amount of work to save wild birds--and, though they are located inside a state park, they receive no state funding.

Great people with a serious passion for birds.

Took in an injured fledgling Mockingbird we found on the sidewalk in our neighborhood. Very cautious with the Virus and gave us a letter form so we could check up to see what happened to the bird.

I had a red tailed hawk that was injured. I found it in my backyard , and this was the only place that i could find to take the bird in. Their website said that they were open, but it took forever for anyone to return my calls.
I finally received a call back late in the afternoon, so I had to rush to drive from Huntsville to get to Birmingham before they closed.

I sent in my contact card with a donation, and never got feed back from them.

There are lots of birds for bridwatchers and cmaera buffs.

Cant seem to get any info on an owl i took there.
:UPDATE: 5 !!!They took awesome care of that baby (adolescent) owl. The break in his beak was barely noticeable. Their team brought him back to our home and released him back into the wild at our tree. He was well taken care of. The release was beautiful. If you find a bird of prey (my experience) take him/her here, they will take awesome care of the bird and will release back to wild in your presence

Got to see some baby birds being fed and had a "raptor chat" with one of the employees. Short hike from here to "Treetop" where they had more birds on display that had been injured in the past or weren't able to be released. Really cool to see the birds up close. GO SEE THE BALD EAGLE! She didn't have her white feathers yet, but what an awesome animal!

Wonderful rescue center for birds that is open to the public inside Oak Mountain State Park. They have awesome caring people working there, and you can see their non releasable raptors all around the center. They work hard to release all birds that come to them and do a great job of it. Go visit if you get a chance!

I have visited family twice in Birmingham and both times I have visited the wildlife center. Neither time was I disappointed. This last time we went, we got to see a great horned owl and a barred owl up close. The handlers were so knowledgeable about the species and answered any question we had. This rehabilitation center takes in over 800 birds a year and relies on donations to run. I would recommend this place to anyone that is interested in birds! They have indoor and outdoor flight cages. The day we were there, they had 8 raptors in the outdoor flight cage, some getting ready to be released. Inside the center, they have a nursery where you can see baby birds being fed and areas that have educational videos and exhibits.

We love this place and their mission. They care for, rehabilitate, and educate about raptors. We visit all the time but this October, we went to the annual Owl-o-ween. They had crafts, candy, and activities for the kids. But the highlights were the live talk with some of the owls that are in their care and the release of a rehabilitated owl, which was absolutely amazing!

I wish they still did small mammal rehabilitation but even without that, this place is worth stopping in. Knowledgeable and dedicated naturalists and volunteers are busy all the time but happy to share the birds. Excellent for bird watching and photography.

Alabama Wildlife Center does some amazing work when it comes to rehabilitating injured and sick wildlife. The guided tour was very intriguing and educational. The staff was very willing to answer any questions and very informative with their responses. If you're a nature nut like myself I highly recommend you plan a visit, it's a very memorable and educational experience.

I took a nest of hatchlings I found while removing some vines off the house. The staff didn't accept them implying that they were "common" birds. Weren't they wildlife too, I thought to myself? The Humane Society recommended this place. I don't know what happened to those poor helpless birds. I put them on a chair on the front porch and covered them and left an opening so the mother could get to them and feed them, but soon they disappeard. The facility looked nice though.

This place is AMAZING! I have been here a couple times, a few times to look around and one time to bring a baby bird that they took care of. The work they do here is so wonderful and so important to our wildlife. I am so thankful to every one of them. Go visit and be sure to donate to their cause!

I had rescued a Mississippi kite (thought it was a broad-tailes hawk) and took him to the AL Wildlife Center in Pelham. They are the professionals, after all! He was healthy and they can make sure he returns to the wild with no problems.
I would've felt better turning him over if the young girl at the check-in desk had of been professional, but she seemed to know little, had purple hair (not a big deal), and a large hickey clearly visible on the right side of her neck. I did not feel confident with this person receiving a possibly injured animal. She asked/stated 3 times that she thought I was from some other veterinary clinic dropping off a bird. I had called 5 1/2 hours before I arrived, but was told that no one had "probably" checked the answering machine. A more professional person should be the initial point of contact. Not one other person came from "the back" to speak to me in regards to this raptor I did wander around and did speak with an office administrator. She was very nice and allayed my hesitation with the front desk person.
Aside from the poor initial impression, the center is wonderful, clean, neat, interactive, and a fantastic place to view, learn about, and assist our wildlife.
The center no longer accepts mammals. They are open every day!
Volunteers are needed, donations are welcome. They are a non-profit. Once you see the fantastic center and realize all they do, you will want to give at least something! They also are in need of building materials. Please check their website to help. It's more than worthwile!
Visiting is great for adults and magical for kids. The perfect type of learning field trip.
I promise you will enjoy yourself.

Dedicated staff caring for injured and orphaned wildlife. Adult birds are housed in aviaries which you can visit. Excitable kids should be coached ahead of time to keep quiet so that animals are not disturbed. When I was there I saw only birds but they rehab other wildlife. The treetop trail descends from the facility; if you hike the trail you will encounter a raised boardwalk with aviaries housing hawks, owls and vultures including an unusual white turkey vulture. There is also a platform housing part of a real eagle s nest. Very educational!

Wow what a cool place! Donate supplies if you can as I'm sure it would help very much. The center was empty with no visitors so it made our visit very nice. It's free to enter although it's $5 per person to enter the state park gates. The birds were amazing to see up close.
