Alabama Shakespeare Festival Review

Always something different - been to several family productions, love the park (Blount cultural park) - perfect place to spend an afternoon with family or friends.

Great venue in an awesome park. Nothing like live theater. Go!

One of the most important cultural organizations in Montgomery, Alabama! Bringing priceless plays & culture to our capital city and our children! My only complaint is their recent political leaning when all we want to do is escape today s political climate. Instead of seeing more plays about today s issues (which I won t pay to go to) I hope they help us escape into stories of the past, adventures of fantasy, stories of interesting lives and the every important works of Shakespeare! I look forward to taking my grandchildren and keeping this family tradition alive!

We saw The Sound of Music and it was great. The play and the movie are different so you have to ignore what you think is going to happen.

Great performances, beautiful location. Even if you are not seeing a play the grounds are very nice and relaxing to go visit.

Beautiful property and highly enjoyed the play (Hamlet) but honestly, after my recent visit I now have concerns regarding elderly patrons, particularly down at the Octagon stage. An older woman had a bad fall at the performance we attended and I felt this could have been avoided if ASF had made it clear beforehand that no one should cross the octagon stage at the end of the play but should instead go around at the top and hold onto the handrail. Dirt was poured onto the stage as part of the performance and after the lady slipped and fell in it when she was making her way to the exit. Also, they should probably extend the handrails. Another older patron almost fell earlier at the same performance because there was a gap of several steps before the handrail started and she needed support to get around. She stumbled but was ok. The other patron who did fall needed medical attention.

Other than my concerns for the safety of older patrons, I would say this is a wonderful cultural experience and I am grateful we have this in Montgomery Alabama. I will return to see more performances in the future.

Seating is cramped and uncomfortable. Good programs put on, but you can never get comfortable while you watch them.

Outstanding performance by all the actors in Steel Magnolias! They were charming and funny in their roles with an energy that engaged the audience in the storyline. Kudos to the band for setting the perfect southern tone! It was a truly uplifting and enjoyable experience.

Many good companies perform at the Shakespeare festival. Make sure you go to the museum. And take bread to feed the ducks.

Not a bad seat in the house. Just saw the Valentine's day show. The Jerry Lee Lewis impersonator was spectacular.

I absolutely love the environment, rather I'm there to relax or exercise.

I enjoyed the play. The usher helped me find my seat when I ran late.

I love this place. They do a lot of plays, Christmas tree lighting, and festivals stuff here.

I absolutely love it here! I come here to exercise regularly on the grounds and it would be wonderful to have handsoap in the outside restrooms.

I saw Mousetrap randomly with family. The performance was excellent. The interior of the Festival Stage could use a face lift. They have the same old carpet as when I was there in the late 80's.

Mary Poppins was one of the best shows that I have ever seen anywhere. The cast, staging and set were simply superb.

We brought our students to watch "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever". It was a great play and we enjoyed every minute of it. Such a cute little theater too.

Could have more benches outside and more attractions

ASF is an asset to the River Region! Great place to go for a relaxing walk, brisk run or just sitting by the water for a picnic.

Mary Poppins was fabulous! We all thoroughly enjoyed it!

Saint Joan was a nice play with wonderful actors. But it was hard to hear them at times.

My son had an audition for an upcoming play. He said the staff made it fun and enjoyable. He had a great time.

Simply the best theatre in the south! Makes me feel like I m in NY again!!

Very talented actors, excellent productions, beautiful location, the Alabama Shakespeare Festival has it all. My wife and I frequent ASF as often as we can...they have season passes too.

Hands down, our favorite place in Montgomery. The plays are always wonderful, the grounds are beautiful and we love feeding the ducks and watching the turtles.

Grear seats to see amazingly talented cast. The Shakespeare Theater never disappoints.

My friend and I went to see the play Annie. It was absolutely awesome! We had such a good time and would definitely recommend this play to everybody.

Amazingly beautiful space. Just saw excellent performance of "Four Little Girls". Parking visibility at night is poor. Need better, more reflective signage that designates your parking locale.

Very nice facility and good selection of plays. Concessions were available and offered a decent selection at a premium price. The play itself was good and performed very well. Seating was tight and a lot of people were crammed into the theater. We were seated in the octagon and there simply was not enough leg room.

We have been coming here for years. Quality theatre in a beautiful venue! Just saw The Sound of Music and EVERY voice was strong. Julie Andrews would have approved as well!

Montgomery's finest place for the arts! Check out all their events, there's always something going on. However, the Divine lunches every other month are a foodies' heavenly delight!

Bravo! Attended "All is Calm" and it was a great production. Cheers to the hard work of all involved. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience.

I frequently attend plays here and this is a great experience.

Good time for a good price. I went to see "The Cat in the Hat" with my wife which is a strange thing to see at a Shakespeare themed venue. (I can't wait for "Green Eggs and Hamlet") Although it was a short play geared toward children, we enjoyed it. The cast did a "meet and greet" after the show in the foyer. Parking is free and convenient. Staff helpful and polite.

Beautiful inside and out. Such an incredible venue to host amazing talent.

Mary Poppins on 7/26 at 2PM. Without a rousing, energizing overture to launch the show, it was imperative that the players show enthusiasm and impart energy to the show. They need to up the tempo in order to help achieve this. Sadly the dialog did not flow and the choreography was absent for much of the show. It was almost like separate scenes or vignettes.
There were two realty good musical numbers...Supercalifragilistic and also the one with the chimney sweeps and brooms.
We enjoyed the beautiful theater and the use of wonderful staging was really impressive. What a gem you have!

What a resource for Montgomery! I recently moved to the area and am looking forward to attending lots of great performances in such a beautiful and convenient venue. I absolutely loved the performance of Annie so I will definitely plan to indulge this fall!

Two stages, incredible production work and acting. I go at least twice a year.
