That is how the owners and controller used to bully and intimidate their good employees who eventually left because they were being harassed and taken advantage of. This was their company's culture. I am surprised the ministry of labor did not investigate this type of behaviour displayed by management. I am guessing that no one complained, it was swept under the rug, and the ministry did not take any action (no surprise here).

This place used to be better run by previous employees / staff, however, the owners had neither acknowledged nor appreciated the good people they once had, but rather had always found a fault or situation with them, had always taken one side (either theirs or the customer/friend), and strongly believed in hearsay, rather than talking one on one professionally with their staff - thereby creating a lot of animosity and division, and had absolutely no control amongst their own staff - to the extent that it eventually became a Toxic Environment filled with nothing but negative energy and severe tension. Even family members left the company citing indifference. Unfortunately, it is too late now to realize! Then again, what do I know? Perhaps this was their way? Certainly not the way in which I would have run a company or business if I were the owner. If I were the owner, I would have personally called upon each one of my staff in my office, and given them the due respect, given them the satisfaction - that I truly appreciate their hard work and dedication, and would be truly grateful, blessed and honored that I have such people working for me. This was unfortunately never ever the case! It was more like sending nasty emails to staff to degrade their moral, or more like comparing one staff member to be more like another staff member, etc, etc. I have now come to the gut-wrenching realization that this is the manner in which bullies work and operate, and is a truly sad situation that bullies are ruling the world!
