I was a student at Adelbrook until early 2018 and I will always have horrible memories of what i went through at this place. Staff would physically abuse and me swear at me on a daily basis. I will never forget the time i sprained my wrist because a staff bent my hand backwards. If you are a parent please do not send your child here. They will only suffer as i did. Please somebody close this place down.

It is so sad to hear about some of the reviews that are written here. I used to work for the previous company, Children's Home of Cromwell in 2007, while in college for social work. I enjoyed and loved my experience working for the company and the positive interactions I have had with children there. I was insulted on a daily basis, spat at, kicked and bitten and even as a college student, I was happy to come back and make a difference to the next generation of children. I am now a school counselor and I am so thankful for my experience here as a worker. I went through several good times as well as bad experiences. I stay in touch with many of the students who were placed during that time and I love seeing how well they are and now are parents. I am saddened to hear reviews about physical abuse etc from staff. I am hoping that with the many reviews change will come and it will get back to the loving place, regardless of the behaviors that I was once used to as a staff member. My manager during that time was Ms. Nancy Dube.

Adelbrook treats their clients terribly!!! Clients get physically and emotionally abused and mistreated all the time! However, Adelbrook's senior administration just lies about it and covers it up. They pretend it's not happening just so the organization's image won't suffer. I worked here long enough to know how things really operate "behind the scenes." Many of the clients end up with unexplained bruises and other injuries which is actually the result of them being physically abused and beaten up by several of the staff!!! Child abuse is illegal so DCF needs to go in there and investigate what is really happening!

Don't ever use their services for anything! Most of the staff including the administration here is very unprofessional and a few are downright abusive!! They have very little patience with the kids and are way too rough.

Just an awful company! They don't care about staff or the residents. That's why everybody quits. Or why several of the parents and family members are now complaining about poor quality of service. Please somebody come in and shut this place down..

Yes the staff here are very abusive toward the kid...

Yes the staff here are very abusive toward the kids. And yes, I saw for myself how violent and abusive the staff gets when they get frustrated. But that still doesn't make it okay. Everything which I just read about somebody blaming the kids for adult care giver responses is garbage. Adults are suppose to remain therapeutic toward kids, even those with the behaviors. So then to say that it's the kids faults for sometimes showing aggressive behaviors which is why there in treatment in the first place. That's just plain wrong and blaming disabled kids for the actions of their adults who are taking care of them. Adelbrook really is a very violent and abusive place for kids. And in case you don't believe me, just read several of the other reviews here on Google.... the ones who weren't paid off by Adlebrook administration to post false positive reviews. Avoid this violent and abusive death trap for your kids at all costs - it's just not worth them getting permanently injured which I saw many times in the past here.

When my son Evan first went to this school 3 years ago it was an awesome place. Then people started quitting, including the principal, but I kept my hopes up. However the quality has continued to decline over the last year and after yesterday's incident I called DCF because of the harsh restraining that left some very disgusting cuts on my son's body and the verbal abuse of the staff members, particularly Lydia and Josh. If anyone sees this and has had similar experiences please continue to advocate ... This is an awful place now and it makes me so sad because I remember when this place was great. We can get together and perhaps we will have a stronger voice to help these kids. It's my son's wish.

Yeah really bad and no way would I suggest them either. The company's gotten pretty awful with this new management. Our kid got neglected by the staff on more then 1 occasion, made to sit in his own fecal waste for hours at a time before somebody finally realized he needed to be changed (He's incontinent and can't use the bathroom on his own without proper assistance) So we yanked our son out too after that latest incident but there was other stuff too. He seemed really afraid of some of the staff there and we suspect he was also being mishandled and mistreated. Thankfully we were able to find a different company. Don't take your chances on Adelbrooks of Cromwell though because the level of therapeutic care here is pretty awful.

There was one woman here named Lynn Toya James who is the worst manager who I've ever worked for in my entire life!!! Not only did this woman deliberately target and harass me on several occasions, but she also constantly gossiped about me and spread evil and malicious rumors about me around the entire company. Senior administration and HR did nothing to help me, in fact they just turned their backs on me and went along with Lynn Toya James and her workplace bullying which is totally sad and pathetic!! The HR director by the name of Lovette Caesar-Johnson is a very two faced and deceptive individual too! All she does is cater to management, lie to the employees, and then turn around and take the company management's side in a heartbeat! Employees have basically zero rights while working for this godforsaken company because HR and senior management all band together and team up against people. Ms. Caesar-Johnson definitely does NOT advocate for the employees and their rights in Adelbrook! And if anything she goes deliberately out of her way to put red flags next to certain employees names who she considers problem employees because of how much negative information they know about the company. Then Adelbrook with the help of HR weeds them out one at a time, which is really ironic when you consider this is suppose to be an organization in the human service field!! However, company administration and HR actually act very inhumane toward their own employees. For future candidates of employment for Adelbrook, please read this review in order to save yourself from any future hassles or workplace bullying and harassment. The company's management and HR are all basically part of a junior high school clique who teams up together to target, harass, eliminate, and ultimately force out anybody who refuses to stroke their arrogant egos and join their stupid little clique!! Employees get blacklisted and targeted all the time due to purely interpersonal reasons and nothing else, based on who management and HR don't like. Unfortunately, all of them act immature and cliquey like junior high school bullies!! Avoid working for Adelbrook at all costs if you value your sanity, your integrity, and above all else your soul!! Thank goodness my time spent in this unethical and sleazy godforsaken dungeon is finally over!!

you know honestly it doesn't surprise me reading all these awful reviews for Adelbrook.. my 11 year old special needs brother attend the program from 2017 until just a couple weeks ago, this is the worst and most abusive facility I have ever encountered.. my brother was constantly beaten, made fun of, bullied by staff and even administrators, then they denied every single allegation which I called into DCF careline and do not ever send your kid to Adelbrook located in Cromwell CT or they will probably end up abused and mistreated like my special needs brother.. someone with proper authority needs to make sure this facility is permanently closed down, it does a greater harm than good to our vulnerable youth

I was here from 1988-1990 as a resident when it was called the children s home of Cromwell and I hated it very much and couldn t wait to leave. I was 12 now I m 40. But as I look back I think it had a positive impact on my life. Discipline was what I needed since I wasn t getting that at home with a sick father and a pushover mother. I ve never been back but I see it s under new ownership and I see much complaints in the comments so I can t comment on the present conditions at this place. All I can say is to a kid that is there to realize it s not the end of the world. You have a whole life ahead of you to live. Don t give up. This is just a minor setback but maybe a positive one. Good luck

Just to set the record straight.... totally and ac...

Just to set the record straight.... totally and accurately straight, there really IS ongoing abuse and maltreatment of the residents of Adelbrook here. This facility is located in Cromwell Connecticut and this is the one that has all these ongoing abuse issues left and right. Physical, emotional, and psychological abuse of the residents here in Adelbrook really DOES happen.... no sense in administration pretending like it doesn't happen. Honestly it really does, believe me because I've witnessed this abuse and maltreatment hundreds and hundreds of times, literally. Please don't be fooled by any of the 5 star reviews written on this facility's Google page. These are individuals who probably don't realize or understand how widespread these ongoing abuse and maltreatment issues are. I've directly witnessed employees and administrators of all tiers and levels of the organization: punching, hitting, kicking, spitting on, twisting arms around during restraints until they are spraigned, and even violently shoving students against the classroom walls while yelling at them and verbally insulting them! This is all stuff which I really, honestly have witnessed countless times. All of this really must end, it's not right. It's not fair. And it's definitely not ethical for this ongoing abuse to keep being allowed happening to these vulnerable populations. Please stop pretending like ongoing violent abuse and awful maltreatment of the residents of Adelbrook isn't really happening...... I know that it is. So do you as the senior administrators too. So maybe instead of constantly trying to sweep all these abuse and maltreatment incidents under the carpet, just please actually do something to resolve these issues. Ongoing training for providing therapeutic interventions with your vulnerable students is an absolute must, not optional. Adelbrook can become a truly good place for students to be, first all of this unethical and violent abuse must first come to an end. Once and for all. Make it better for the residents, they deserve so much better.

I would give a negative if I could. The staff is manipulative and corrupt. Judging by how they treat parents one can only guess how they would treat the children. They wouldn't allowus to celebrate our sons birthday, something he was greatly looking forward to. They have DCF in their pocket so good luck trying to file a complaint with them.
At the end of the day it's just another business looking to make a profit. If your child is too much work for them, they will manipulate the situation to get the child out of there.

My Autistic daughter attended the school last year...

My Autistic daughter attended the school last year. We did eventually find a better match for her where the employees and administrators were a little more sensitive to her special needs. There was never any overt abuse of our daughter while in Adelbrook. Our feeling was that the services simply weren't as good as what they should have been. Most of the time, our daughter just sat there playing with books and toys rather than being taught anything. Some of the employees and administrators were caring but there were several others who weren't. Maybe it's changed in the last year, but I still probably wouldn't recommend this school for students suffering from Autism.

I am very surprised to hear some of the comments people have made about Adelbrook. I have been working for the company for a little over two years now and I have only seen great things from the staff and the agency. There may be a few bad apples that work here that give Adelbrook a bad reputation. The Agency recently had some management changes, with a new CEO and changes in other departments have only made this place a better place to work.
Everyone has the right to voice their own opinion, but to say that this place should be shut down is just not right. Adelbrook staff and management are doing a great job working with children in their care.

I admitted my son into one of these programs. It was very terrible. He got beat up every single day by the other students. This continued for several weeks. I hoped it would get better. But the staff and administration didn't nothing about it. This is a very bad place for child treatment. Do not ever send your child here. My story is not alone after seeing the other painful accounts of other parents. This company does more harm then good. It should be permanently closed.

My grandson was violently shoved into a wall by on...

My grandson was violently shoved into a wall by one of the classroom aides here at Adel-Brook Services. Obviously, we had him removed the next day and filed a report with DCF. Unfortunately, the abuse report came back as unsubstantiated because there wasn't enough solid proof. DCF investigations said it was "hard to conclude with 100% certainty that any abuse actually occurred." Due to my grandson being non-verbal, he obviously wasn't able to verbalize what had really happened that day. However, I know for a fact that Adel-Brook Services was responsible for his abuse. He went to school without any bruises, then came home one day with a huge black and blue bruised area the size of a large watermelon all over his back! The administrative people who I spoke to about this incident vehemently denied that any abuse occurred, but they did at least file what's called a 136 report with DCF. So I am grateful that they didn't try to cover anything up, like was alleged on another review. However, due to our terrible experiences with Adel-Brook Services and the abuse of my grandson, this is definitely the last place on Earth I would ever recommend for school services for autistic youth.

Elijah M I went to that school for about two years I think it was about 2013 -2014 when I was there Miss Amy Gates was the principal and it wasn't so bad after she left Tricia Sobraske became the principal and it went downhill from there she didn't like me right from the start I don't think she's good with Special needs kids at all she gave me a very hard time and my mom too for sticking up for me. She would swear at me and talk bad about my mom to me. I ended up leaving that school and stayed out of school for 3 years. Now I'm in my senior year in Portland High School and I love it!! I will be graduating this year I would not Recommend Adelbrook school to anyone with Special needs. They have no patience.

I went to the Cromwell adelbrook a few years ago as a student and i kept getting made fun of by the staff. I highly suggest you don't send your kids there. The staff encouraged other kids to play along with them and make fun of me. The teachers handed out the work and never helped when I needed it because the teachers were busy on their phones the whole class.
