Could not miss my tribute to the prestigious Military Academy of Modena ... My father, in the years 1949-51 attended this great Academy! He was part of the 6 Course and then made a good career, retiring as General of the Infantry Division. Unfortunately he left us in 1996, but in 2009, with great emotion, we came to Modena, invited by my father's colleagues to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the birth of the 6 Corso together! On that occasion, we visited the Military Academy of which my father never failed to speak with nostalgia for those fundamental years of training and starting his future career in the army!

The Army Academy is a military training institute with a university character, located in the Palazzo Ducale of Modena. The Military Academy of Modena has the task of proceeding with the initial university training of future officers of the Normal Role of the Italian Army and of the Carabinieri in a course of studies that, for the main courses, has a duration of two years. The Academy is governed by a Divisional General who makes use of a command office run by his deputy, a Brigadier General. From these depend two regimental level departments, the Academic Department and the Students Regiment. The first is controlled by a Colonel who uses a secretariat and four departments and is responsible for the educational activities of the institute.

It is the biggest military Academy in Europe. It is very famous for the graduation of many important people in the Army. I am happy to have had the opportunity to enter it twice for work, since not anybody is authorized to enter inside. It is really beautiful and huge from inside.

The only regret is that it cannot be easily visited inside. Obviously, reconciling the current function of this home, with the desire of visitors, is not an easy thing, but such beauty should be able to be the heritage of all of us. Modena deserves it and we lovers of our history deserve it.
