Fun for everyone. Love the new addition for smalle...
Fun for everyone. Love the new addition for smaller children.
Fun for everyone. Love the new addition for smaller children.
Really great and the oldest natural history museum. Of course, lots of dinos!!
A great museum for the whole family. Tickets cost what they cost, but you can find a deal if you keep your eyes open!
Dinosaur/fossil exhibits are really good, but the rest of the Museum seemed lacking. Good interactive learning opportunities for kids.
Very interesting museum with a good range of dinosaur to modern animal fossils and stuffed animals. There are some live exhibits too.
Glad it's reopened. Sorry the store was closed. Not crowded. Need to go support them so we don't lose our museums
Very nice museum with a variety of exhibits and plenty of up-and-coming displays.
wonderful place. It has Dinosaur park, butterfly park, birds and many more. People in university do explain stuff well
Great place for family outing. Really cool exhibits
I've been here a couple times with my family. There is so much to see and they have activities for kids to do - which keeps them engaged and learning. I don't care for the cannon on the 2nd floor.
This is a great (AND historic) science museum that is geared for children but contains plenty to excite science-oriented adults as well. There are three floors containing a huge collection of taxidermied animals, countless dinosaur skeletons and casts, an "archaeological site" where kids can uncover fossils, a large auditorium for videos and presentations and an entire room of interactive science exhibits meant to be manipulated by children. There is a huge lunchroom for visiting schools and camps, as well as a well-stocked cafe. There is always a program happening or about to happen, and overall this location gives the sense of being larger than it is.
One note of caution: There is no parking lot, and on-street parking is difficult or outright impossible. Several paid lots within a five-minute walk from the museum occasionally have all-day deals, so it's worthwhile to look into that via SpotHero or some other third party site and then spend the day at the museum itself or its many nearby attractions such as the Free Library of Philadelphia or the Franklin Institute.
Mythical creatures exhibit was kind of cheesy but the rest of the museum was great!
Great exhibits while being a little quieter and less crowded than some of the other museums nearby.,
Well thought out, well laid out, entertaining and educational.
Great for young kids, especially the Inside Out section which has tons of books, some live insects, a little beach (sand) area, and occasionally a live animal is brought out to be talked about and touched. On this ocassion it was a turtle!
I love the moving dinosaurs and the dinosaur bones so amazing.
Love their teaching room for kids. Great hands on activities
We went here on a school trip It was educational and the students enjoyed learning about the animals, especially dinosaurs! They also had a live animal show with an owl and snake , an indoor butterfly exhibit and a baby sloth.
Great for kids! Its a must if you need something to do on a rainy day with any kid. The "Dino" exhibit was done well.
Closes at 430 but the live animal were put up around 4. The after 3 discount is a RIP off.
I enjoy going to this museum so much. I love the Butterflies exhibit and the dinosaurs the most! Best place to take your kids all year round. I highly recommend for anyone who enjoys science and learn. It isn't my 1st time hear and it won't be my last!
A lot more fun than I thought it would be! They have a lot of exhibits to see & experience & their staff interacts with the children wonderfully!
The Academy is really fun, especially with little kids. They love the animal group windows and all of the dinosaurs and the dino dig area was a hit.
The displays are super realistic, love the dinosaurs
If you love dinosaurs, you will love this musem. The first floor and the mezzanine is devoted to bones, complete with an archeological "dig" on the mezzanine floor.
I also learned that no marine creatures are dinosaurs (all dinosaurs are terrestrial or avian) and that all modern birds are dinosaurs (technically some paleontologists believe all birds descended from dinosaurs, while others believe birds and dinosaurs have a common, ancient ancestor).
The upper floors have displays of different stuffed animals from different continents, and are less interesting. Young kids love them though.
This place rules. It's like that one museum in New York City (The Big Apple , "Hey I'm walking here!" etc.) only not as big I think. It's like that museum because it has the stuffed wild animals behind glass in like fake nature settings. I like those.
Every time I've been here there have been gaggles gaggles, I say! of super-friendly people set up around the museum with interesting things for the kids to see, touch, make and play with. Shout-out to these gaggles. I really appreciate y'all.
It's also incredibly affordable relative to other museums in the area. I'm not naming names but *cough* FRANKLIN INSTITUTE *cough*
Sorry. I'm just playing. I got love for all the cool places here in Philadelphia. The Windy City does it again
We went there because of the frog signs on the front of the building, only too learn when we got in that the exhibit had closed the day before. It was still worth the visit though. Half of the first floor is the permanent dinosaur exhibit, which is great. There butterflies were also very cool. It was great trying to find them amongst the plants. One of the curators pointed out where they keep the cocoons and chrysalis. I even learned that moths have cocoons and butterflies have chrysalis. We only had about an hour and a half before closing time so we did not get to see everything. I would love to go back and explore more.
I took my daughter here, and we had such a great time! We're definitely coming back when she's older, so she can learn more about the natural world.
It's a wonderful place to visit with your friends or family. It's amazing. This museum has so much to see with regards to the natural wonders and the History of Life on Planet Earth.
If it's summer and you have kids, you need to be here.
Wonderful way to teach your children about the world of science.
My granddaughter enjoyed the dinosaurs. Parking in the area is ridiculous.
A simply extraordinary museum on 3 floors ... I recommend to all
Both of my granddaughters had a great time! And us adults too! Thank you.
The museum is small and does not change after a few visits ,, some special traveling exhibits come and you have to pay extra ,, but from what I seen , I have not paid the extra cost to see them ... I am in my first year membership and I essentially got it because of the live butterfly exhibit ... at least that will change at times but it's always hot and humid to work you over like a sauna ..There is also a live animal/creature meeting at times ... . I am still undecided to renew my membership in the next 3-4 months ... My main interest is shooting butterfly photo ...
It complies with the health regulations in the time of COVID19, affordable price, an excellent option to learn and spend a good day with the family.
The best place for lunch dates of any. especially younger ones there is a play and discovery are on top floor. We can always find street parking on the circle on sundays
I was very surprised by how interesting The Academy of Natural Sciences is! We visited it after we had spent a few hours at The Franklin Institute (they are right across the way from each other) and it was the perfect end to our science-filled day.
The Academy isn't big, but their displays are interesting & well-maintained (they were even renovating some dioramas while were were there). The kids had fun at The Big Dig, where they got goggles & an archeologist tool to try their hands at an excavation. Also, we spent some time in the butterfly room checking out the various species of moths and butterflies flying around.
The staff was very friendly, helpful, & knowledgeable. We had a great chat with one of the women working there about their tortoise (who my kids thought was really cute, btw).
The Academy is a great stop on your trip to Philly & it won't take up too much of your day to explore.
Wonderful exhibits keep young ones interested while they learn about the natural world.
Nice museum. The kids loved it. Really good dinosaur exhibit.
Very much enjoyed it! Nice exhibits, big fan of dinosaurs so loved that, and the butterflies were great too. Worth the visit!
Loves this place. Probably more for kids but adults can learn a lot here too. Great specimens.
Excellent place, very friendly volunteers, enjoy a lot.
Bugfest there was a fantastic event. Very knowledgeable staff and some great interactive exhibits
Love love this place my grandchildren had a great time.
Great place for a trip wide gift shop, nice exhibit and I love the butterfly one
Great learning experience , exciting place to learn
This place is a wonderful educational experience for the entire family with exhibits and informational presentations.
I went for their Friday night event. It was cute - a variety of people were there from going families to dates, groups of friends and retirees. It was a little smaller than I thought. That said, the staff were enthusiastic and helpful, the "beer garden" was a nice option, and it made for a sweet experience.
It was real nice just wish they had more tour guidr to explain more about the cool stuff they have.
Everyone who works here is friendly and helpful. Always a great time, glad it's in our backyard. On your way out check out the fountain on the Parkway
A decent museum that is geared towards kids. There are a few gems in there for the adults as well.
It's pretty large but when you lose the kids it's easy to find them they tend to be a little quick
Needs better exhibits. Nothing has changed in years. Lots of taxidermy filled dioramas.
Great experience for my 6 year olds. Dinosaur bones, butterflies and some cool interactive exhibits.
It a great place for small groups of children to experience the current science learning exhibits.
