Spectacular food. Beautiful atmosphere.. great service!!

Had a business lunch. Service was slow. Food was good when it arrived. Great views of Union Lake. Menu needs to be refreshed.

I love this place, but I wish they would rotate the menu sometime. It's been the same for many years. Still enjoy going here though!

Customer service falls way below what it should be......high opinion of themselves and each time I try again it's more unfriendly to me. I am done.

I ve enjoyed Matter of Taste many times, but after last night, I don t think I ll ever return. The service was horrible. We waited at least 20 minutes for a waitress to even say hello and bring water. Then after we ordered- it took about an hour to get our appetizer. Not only that our appetizer, salad, and main course were served at the same time. The waitress blamed the kitchen, but she never came back to check on us during these long waits and she didn t refill drinks. Three tables around us asked to speak with the manager at the same time (everyone was receiving the same bad service). The manager never came. It also took us quite awhile to get our bill. I enjoy a slow dinner when it s served correctly, but this wasn t and their excuses and lack of apologies were pathetic.

It is okay a little pricey. The dinner salad was great.

A very special place to dine. I like to take my out of town guests to this upscale restaurant.

Always An Amazing Dining Experience, Great Take Out Gourmet Meals

Used to be one of my favorite restaurants, but things have gone down hill since I was last there. Met a girlfriend for lunch who had never been to the restaurant before. I was so looking forward to Chicken Margherita, but it was not on the menu. Thought I would try the Petite Filet, but it was grizzly & did not taste right. The house salad is still my favorite, but overall it wasn't good.

Food was good. Nice inside and out. Cute gift shop. It took a while to get our food. We also got there at noon and they were already out of two items, including one of the specials.

Friendly service, great food, sitting outside on the patio on the lake. Beautiful. Don't forget to visit the shop off the lobby. They have prepared food just like what's on the menu to go.plus wines,beer etc

My steak was marginal, fatty and not cooked properly. That being said... everything else was very good. Nice atmosphere, view, appetizers were excellent. Maybe it was just an off night on my steak. I would consider trying it again.

The restaurant was just opening for lunch and we were the first to be seated. Was nice to sit out on the patio and enjoy the view of the lake. The menu is not very extensive. Service was very slow. Might give it another chance.

This is one of my favorite places to eat, especially in the summer/early fall when you can sit out on the water to eat. Be prepared to spend a lot of money if you plan on enjoying a full meal (apps, dinner, dessert and drinks). It's worth every penny.

Mother's Day Brunch yesterday .... fantastic. Tremendous value. Great food, friendly staff, terrific ambiance.

Basis of comparison: Schula's in Troy. Customer for years but no more.

Made a return visit here. Couldn't eat on the patio, they said, for 15-20 minutes, but there were empty tables and no one ever sat in them the entire hour we were there!? Ordered Thai crispy walleye. Walleye was 3 pieces, each the size of a French fry!! Really? For $13.99! Also, service was slow.

Normally I love this place but tonight it was disappointing. The atmosphere and service and drinks were all tops but the filet left a lot to be desired. Way too much salt, pepper and rosemary. I couldn t taste the meat. Gruyere potatoes were cheesy but wow garlic overpowered. Asparagus was so overripe it was yellow and all I can say about the carrot was orange blah mush. My husband s ravioli and arancini appetizer were on point so will stick to those in the future.

This is my "Go To" place to get an excellent meal everytime. Get the Trout.

A party of 7, right from the start we were greeted with NO reservation, NO seating outside, NO guarantees that the 2 separate tables are close to each other... quite a lot of NOs wait time 1hr and 30 min! We decided to stay, and waited about 45 minutes! Decent ! We had Robert as a server that was polite, attentive and kind. The food was late, very late...apps and especially mains. My main, the Lamb was less then mediocre - cold veggies, sauce had a skin on top - indication that it was sitting somewhere in the kitchen for a while, mash was cold and dry but overall FLAVORLESS - the whole dish! On a positive note some of my friends enjoyed the seafood dishes - so recommend seafood! Myself - I will not go back and do not recommend the place! WAY OVERRATED!

Love this place and the view. Bread is amazing. I d rathe have bread and cheese there for dinner.

I met some friends for lunch at A Matter of Taste and as always, the food was beyond delicious! The atmosphere is so pretty and festive, and the service was warm and friendly and professional.
I ordered the Harvest Salad with grilled salmon and my stomach is still smiling!

Saturday night birthday celebration! Arrived without a reservation and were seated within five minutes, though reservation are recommended. Perfect table for two with a great view of the water and well decorated dining area. Robert was our waiter and would consider him very polished and professional.
Drink order, Ahi Tuna Skewers and exceptional bread was very prompt. Water refill could have been a little more prompt though. Would definitely suggest the 12oz Surlion and Pan Seared Halibut (ordered off the menu) for a mild surf and turf experience. Overall, noticed the manger constantly circulating the operation and we ended the meal with a piece of Carrot Chessecake (birthday candle attached) that was blended with chocolate and almonds.
Thanks for a tremendous evening Robert and the entire M.O.T. crew. WE'LL BE BACK!

I had an absolutely fabulous experience with 'It' a Matter of Taste' catering carry out for Thanksgiving dinner. I called last week and ordered cooked dinner for 30 people to be picked up on Thanksgiving morning. The staff member who took my order helped me with portions and made great suggestions. They prepared a large turkey, a stuffed turkey breast, stuffing, mashed potatoes, brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, asparagus + carrots, cranberry chutney, salads, and dinner rolls. Everything was cooked to perfection and DELICIOUS. The food was ready on time and they loaded my car for me. They are very nice to work with. Excellent all the way around. I'll be returning next Thanksgiving. Highly recommend.

ONE OF OUR FAV PLACES TO DINE....especially during the summer! Incredible view! Its right down Union Lake Road from the boutique, so we go here often on lunch or after work. The staff has always been exceptionally nice and beyond professional! A+++++

Beautiful ambiance, friendly staff, delicious corn chowder with chorizo, Margherita chicken very good as was the field greens salad with grilled shrimp!

Did was very good. Service... Not so much. Had to wait to long for a take despite there being 11 open tables, then had water spoiled on my guest by a waiter. Generally, the service was sub par, which was a pity s the food was good and the location great.

We had a lovely anniversary celebration on the lake.

Nice setting on a lake, but the prices are too high for the quality of the food and drinks. Service was excellent, which contributed to the 4th star.

Great place nice atmosphere with delicious menu and variety, I had a special birthday celebration for my lady and they were very accommodating to my special request, I will suggest to order cakes ahead bc they are very booked at the bakery, thank you again everyone.

Nice place to have lunch or dinner with a good view of the lake. During peak times there's a wait without a reservation. Staff are very attentive and prices are fair.

This has been my third time there. It's ok food, a bit overpriced. The view is by far the best in the area. So I guess you're paying for the view. The service was fine. They could make this place much better if they had a rotating seasonal menus (similar to the Root).

My wife and I eat and entertain here often. We also had my in-laws' 60th anniversary party here and our family and friends were treated to terrific food and service. Pan seared polenta, harvest salad, Szechuan salmon and chocolate mousse are favorites. Love dining outside when weather permits. You want to have a great evening? Ask to sit in Jen's section. You won't be disappointed.

Want to like Matter of Taste..... but after 2 back to back horrible experiences, our hopes are deflated. 2 weeks ago, our party of 4 sat on the patio... the view was lovely but that was overshadowed by poor service, waiting for EVERYTHING and when the meal arrived, it was all served out of order. Despite the rough start, the manager apologized so thought to give the restaurant another shot. Last Saturday was worse!!! HORRIBLE service and even longer waits for drinks and appetizers once seated. Although a different manager comped our bottle of wine (we waited over 45 minutes for).....we decided to give it up and head home for leftovers. Very disappointing... such a lovely venue but without good service Matter of Taste is a wash.

Fantastic! We sat outside in the sun and had a wonderful meal, drinks and chance to celebrate out 4th year wedding anniversary.

My husband and I attended a Seminar this evening, offered by Safe Harbor Associates. I would like to commend the two servers that were working, for being so attentive to our needs, quietly slipping in and out of the room, during Tom O Keefe s presentation. These two ladies were exceptional

We went out for our 43 anniversary, what a disappointment. The foods we wanted and martinis were not available along with the dessert we wanted. When the bill came we were charged 3 percent, though we payed debit, and an added charge for up drinks, not understood, but okay. Asked for manager, unhelpful. Owner came and yelled at me, which I had only explained the problem. Said I yelled, I hadn't, she did. Claimed everything was legal. I was not welcomed back. First time in my life I've been asked to leave. I will never go back again. Happy anniversary.

The staff and servers are extremely friendly and helpful and we always feel comfortable and well taken care of. I was in on Tuesday 07/9 - OMG, the service was horrible. We waited 35-45 min for our drinks, the waitress did not know ANY THING about the menu. Then we waited another 40 min for our food. We asked for a specific bottle of wine (cab); she thought it was a white wine. We got there at 6:30pm and left after 10pm. There were only two of us. People around us were complaining. That was just the service. The food was sub-par. Noodles were sticking together with one glob of cheese stuck to it, the chicken had burnt tomato and cheese on it. Bad, bad, bad. Never again.

Great food. Service was pretty ok. But times previous service has been amazing. Especially at the bar.

The best. Great food. Excellent service. Amazing views of Union Lake. This place is worth the wait and the cash. Their dry Martini is excellent. Exceptional starters especially the crab cakes. The Oso burco is amazing. Ceaear salary with anchovies is a must. Excellent bread and oil with herbs. Try it once and you will be back. In summer the lake porch seating is picturesque. They also have an entire takeout section. It's wonderful. We all know italian food is ten times batter the next day after the sauces soak into the pasta and meats.
