They offer educational programs for adults that are eager to improve their current jobs. For example, college prep, hc4, computer classes , tasc ect.

The best union I my opinion, can't walk in for jobs but training is awesome. Members are helpful, staff is awsome, great to meet others on all walks of life. Dental Is the best with GED program

I have been a contributing 1199 member for 3 years. I changed employers last month and needed to fill out the enrollment paperwork all over again. On a Wednesday I left work a bit earlier and I rushed from 32th Street and 1st avenue to the Union HQ office on W 43th Street to make it by the 6pm closing time. It turns out THE OFFICES ARE OPEN UNTIL 7PM ON WEDNESDAYS and the staff wanted to keep it a secret. They actually asked me not to tell anyone about it. I spent well over 30 min filling out all the forms. And today, 2 weeks later, I called to find out if my employer was updated and was informed that they have no records of my paperwork being filed. I was told to print out the forms, fill them out again and fax or mail them in.
It's 2017, why can't all of this be taken care of online?
And please update the office hours to reflect the correct hours of operation on Wednesdays.

This union is excellent in the way they treat members and in many other areas. They really help you get out of the "dog hole". There are so many resources available to help one move up the ladder. I won't mention the benefits of being a member on this platform but I must emphasize that members need to attend the union meetings to be well informed, and you really need to make good use of the union because it's really there for you. Attend, attend meetings because that is how you'll learn of all there is for you. GO AHEAD AND SEEK OUT ALL THE BENIFITS YOUR - UNION 1199SEIU HAS FOR YOU. I ADVISE YOU MAKE GOOD USE OF IT!

They did absolutely nothing regarding the matter I presented to them!!

So I am working at 1199 SEIU on some telecom stuff. I started to eat some candy and chip my front tooth. There is a dentist office downstairs on the first floor. I walked in and told them my issue. With in an hour I was seen and back to work. My tooth was fixed (it was a small chip) But I have to say it was a good experience. Good job guys.

I was relying on the disability check while I recover from surgery. I had no income coming in. Leave Management from my job couldn't pay me sick time because I didn't have any saved. Nor they couldn't pay me vacation time because my leave of absence was just for 4 weeks. I had submitted disability form to 1199 a few days before my leave started and I still have not received any check and its been 3.5 weeks now. I am extremely upset. I have no money to eat and pay bills.

1199 staff are untrustworthy, unresponsive, unrealistic and irresponsible. Silvia M. Call me on 2/22/19 and she stated that she'll sending out a check for me. All I've received are financial statements of the health plan and a denial paper from disability.

I have been given the run around for straight 3 weeks just to simply add my child... First it was Our online portal is down than it was that it doesn't work after that it was the birth certificate is not readable and now they can't find copy of social security number that was faxed and uploaded on the portal and i Still do not have my child added for all these weeks and still am paying prescriptions out of my own pocket for my sick child... i am very disappointed and can not believe i have been with them all this time.

My mother passed and tried applying for her pension. Filled out all paperwork..that was 2 months ago..still waiting..every time I follow up. Snooty staff tells me next week

Ignored a health plan waiver and sent my name and information to Aetna their new health plan carrier !! Also ignored my personal phone request to honor that waiver. Im now obligated to resign with my prefered plan and maybe have a period of time with no coverage. SHAME ON 1199 SEIU!!! This is how they treat a retiree !? !?! !? ! One. Star is too generous!

Conveniently located in Midtown Manhattan. Plan to spend some time there. Staff is overall accommodating and pleasant. In the neighborhood of Madame Tussauds and Ripley's Believe It or Not. While you're in the area, make a day of it.

Don't waste your time, I've been there 5 times and to receive the same response by mail, we give priority to our employees.

Their education department sucks complete run around for testing , find another school , Fordham location is the worst don t depend on Ms.Simmions

Inefficient and ineffective communications for member service.

I keep calling trying to get the forms I need to file for my deceased husbands pension. It should have been filed 2 years ago but someone at the time told me I wasn't entitled to it yet. I have found a letter that says I was entitled 2 years ago and did not have to wait until I was 55.
I keep calling and leaving messages with staff members who say they will give it to the person who handles staff pensions. NO one ever returns a call. I am now leaving the country tomorrow afternoon and still no one will talk to me. Today i was told at 4:30 p,m that people don't work this late, even though your recording states you can call until 6. Another day, another message and still Mr. Greene has not had the courtesy to return my call or even send the proper forms.
