It was the family run hotel notion that attracted us but we were to be sadly disappointed.
(1) Check in was 2.30pm, arrived at early noon and was told room was not ready; acceptable and went for lunch. On return there was a large group tour check in, mainly students quite happily chatting away. Anxious to settle down after a tiring journey I managed to catch the eye of one receptionist and asked about my room but was told in no uncertain terms to wait in the queue ! I thought this was a missed opportunity for the hotel to go the extra mile and made a difference. When things quiet down after 20 minutes, my annoyance was vindicated when it took her less than 10 seconds to retrieve the keys; everything was all ready except the handover! To retrieve our luggage her instructions were follow me ; the word please was not in her vocabulary. In the evening I raised the issue with the manager who was equally unsympathetic or apologetic. A solution to such occasions is to provide additional standby staff to handle such simple queries for other customers.
(2) The breakfast offerings are the standard hot and cold; adequate and depends on one s preferences. Mine to start a good morning is a lovely bowl of mixed fresh fruits but on offer were tinned prunes and tinned grapefruit pieces. To the health conscious, prunes can be diarrhoeic and grapefruits are off limit for those on blood pressure medication (meaning me) The restaurant manager was appreciative of my concerns.
I hope management will take this as constructive criticisms; with Airbnb as the new kid on the block, customer focus, going the extra mile and making a difference is the only way forward. Needless to say I will be looking for a different hotel on my next visit.
