Y.L. Prestol Review of Millenium Stadium

Very accommodating staff - we were late arriving into Cardiff and when we explained the situation (first time in Wales, travelling for over five hours from our house) we got moved to a later tour free of charge. We had the mini tour, which is a whistle stop tour of the stadium, which apparently included some, but not all of the highlights of a standard stadium tour. Well, despite it being a mini tour, we are very happy with what we got. We were allowed to go to the top of the Principality Stadium and also inside its royal box and the executive boxes. There was even a cup we got to lift and take pictures with. The tour guide was very informative. He showed us details we might not have paid attention to otherwise (such as part of the old stadium being incorporated into the new building, etc). It was all very good, and especially so for the reduced rate we were charged (mini tours, naturally, cost less than full tours). So if you are worried it will be a mini tour when you are visiting Cardiff and you will miss out on something - dont be, it is very engaging as it is (there is even a video presentation right at the start of the mini tour). The fact that one of us three adults had mobility issues (using a scooter to move around) was not a problem at any point. There are clean, disabled toilets situated everywhere throughout the stadium, as well as in the gift shop. There are well-maintained lifts, albeit the one to get you to the shop floor is very tightly situated next to the entrance door (hence there is very little space to manoeuvre). The only real negative is that there is no free parking on site (even for disabled Blue Badge holders) - we parked at Castle Mews Car Park (where disabled Blue Badge holders can currently park for free for unlimited amount of time) and walked/scooted for good 15 minutes to get to the Stadium. Overall, we feel that this mini tour is a perfect way to familiarise yourself with the Principality Stadium without having to go on match/performance day (as its not everybody's cup of tea to be surrounded by masses of people). We are happy we had a look around and don't feel we would have been able to know so much about the stadium and it's significance if we had gone for an event. So take the tour, skip the event :)
