Wonderful facility, friendly staff, and a place of refuge and respite for the weary Veteran. My experiences in the VA system as a whole has always been positive and the VAMC in La Jolla is a prime example. Of the many appointments I have had there, I was seen within a reasonable time and accommodating to my schedule. They give numerous reminders via text, emails, and letters so that you know exactly when to be where. Even though the facility is going through renovations, it is a pleasant atmosphere to be in: friendly and helpful greeters/volunteers at the information desk as soon as you walk in, piano playing in the main 1st floor hallway, volunteers saying hi and offering assistance, public computers to go online and print documents you need, tax free shoppette and a cafe for a meal, not to mention the numerous buses that are providing transportation to and from the facility. The physicians and nurses take the time to listen and offer care or advice on problems you may have, service connected or not. It is a good feeling to know that I am able to receive proper medical and mental/emotional care after serving my time for our country.
