Filipe Pireneus Conde Review of Eden Project
Architectural/structural/engineering masterpiece, ...
Architectural/structural/engineering masterpiece, by Nicholas Grimshaw. One of the finest piece of geodesic structures, combined with state-of-the-art hexagonal polyethylene cushions roofing solution! It has two main domes, the bigger one housing a fine example of a rainforest (felt so contemplated and homesick, I'm from Brazil) and the other a Mediterranean ecosystem. It settles itself at an old quarry/mining (?), showing abundance of colors and green life on a former brownish, greyish area. The entrance building is a wooden, rammed earth arcade (if I recall it right, been there for some time now...), with a golden view of the complex in its entirety. The restaurant in between the domes offers a very comfortable ambiance, all surrounded by lights, colours and wood. And the Fibonacci's sunflower building (the roof structure is designed based on Fibonacci's spiral) is another structure so well thought that makes it good to look at! The sculptures by the garden are amazing and the variety of ambiances as well!
Also, very nice ice cream shop!
