My husband and I went to a seminar by E.L.M. legal Services. The content was clearly explained both in the documents left around for us to read, and also the actual talk that was delivered. We were particularly interested in the Protective Property Trust that allowed us to include the children in a trust to help with death duties and to save the house from being sold when one of us might have to go into care.
We had several visits afterwards and decided to go ahead with the Trust. It did involve a great deal of care on our part - getting the signatures of our three children who live in different parts of the country, plus their witnesses. The witnesses had far more to do than just witness one signature,so it would be a good idea to choose one's witness carefully!
It is all fairly expensive but it has given us peace of mind and helped keep the Taxman's hands off our house and IHT. The Wills are now lodged with the Company until needed.
