The Taj Mahal is a five star hotel in Mumbai. There are two buildings in front of the Gateway of India near Colaba. A Taj Mahal Palace and a hotel building next to it. Although the two buildings look different, they are both owned by Tata and are known as the Taj Mahal Hotel. The construction plans of these two buildings have been planned by different architects in different periods of time.

Jacqueline Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, the King and Queen of Norway, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, Roger Moore, John Collis, Angelina Jolie, Badpit, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama are among the world celebrities who have visited the Taj Palace.

History

One of the reasons why the Tatas built the Taj Hotel was that in 1865, the gatekeeper of the famous Watson Hotel in Mumbai forbade Jamshedji Tata to enter. Because that hotel was only for the English. Unable to bear the humiliation, the Tatas decided to build a hotel of international standard for Indians. The Taj Hotel was built on December 16, 1903. Some critics, however, disagree. He is of the opinion that the Tatas built the hotel at his request as the Times of India editor wanted to build a hotel similar to Mumbai.

During World War I, the hotel was converted into a 600-bed hospital. The tall building next to the Taj Palace today was known as the 'Green Hotel' in the port of Apollo. The hotel was notorious for its cheap prices and wild gang feasts. The hotel was bought by the Tatas in 1973 and replaced by the second Taj Jung building of the present Taj Hotel.

The back of the hotel is near the port of Apollo. The door of the hotel is on the east. Many people have misunderstood that the port is at the back of the hotel as the builder did not notice the plan of the building designed by the architect. But this is not true. The hotel has been constructed in such a way that it is convenient for the visitors to transport their luggage by boat.

Construction

The Taj Mahal Hotel is built in Indo-Sarsenic style and was originally designed by Indian architects Sitaram Khanderao Vaidya and DN Mirza and completed by English engineer WA Chambers. For the first time in India, a sliding ladder was installed for this hotel. The materials used in the hotel - fans, stairs, bathrooms, etc. were first ordered from various countries like USA, Germany, Turkey. Even Butler was brought from England. Its dome is made of steel used for the Eiffel Tower, which was imported from Tata at the time.
