Everyone was very kind, and I felt I was in good hands. However, during the late hours, when my pain was at it's peak, no one could explain to me what exactly was going on, what exactly surgically had been done--apparently more than just my thyroid had been removed--and my chest hurt terribly. It hurt to breathe deeply. They kept telling me they couldn't take all my pain away, and I said, I just wanted them to take SOME of it away. I think if I knew WHY I was having more than the expected amount of pain--because lymph nodes had been extracted from the central compartment of my neck--I would have not been so anxious about how much it hurt when I tried to take a deep breath. I was surprised the nurses didn't KNOW that. I mean, knowledge is helpful. Right?
