Our dog, Oscar, had a temperature of 105.1 with other symptoms of lameness, excessive thirst and urination, tired, and not being himself. We called our local vet who was not in. This is when we decided to go to the pet emergency room, which was on a Friday. Once there, Oscar was admitted and hooked up to IV fluids to help with the fever. His fever could only be controlled with IV fluids. On Monday afternoon, we were told by phone our dog needed several operations. We transferred Oscar to the Veterinary Surgery Services in Fort Walton on Tuesday morning. Dr. Wight was kind enough to admit him to their hospital and try to find what was medically wrong with Oscar. Oscar did not need any operations. Dr. Wight collaborated with an internal medicine vet at UF. He said when a dog has a high fever and nothing shows on any test or blood work of why there is a high fever then it must likely is an autoimmune disease. Oscar s joints and platelets were being attacked by his own immune system. Oscar is now taking steroids and resting at home. He is having side effects from the steroids such as excessive thirst and urination, panting, and very tired but we can deal with these side effects. We are praying for the day to see our go-lucky-boy Oscar. There just are not enough of words to express our gratitude to Dr. Wight and his staff. Their caring and compassion for your animal and for you is beyond what you would ever expect. If you have a need for a great person and vet to take care of your furry family member look no further than Veterinary Surgery Services of Fort Walton, Dr. Wight and his wonderful staff.
