Review of Andaz Amsterdam

This was the first time my wife and I traveled to Amsterdam. We had high expectations for this property but were let down a bit. The hotel is very nicely decorated, there are quaint sitting areas to lounge and relax. It is clean and well situated in a nice part of the city. When we arrived our room was not ready but this was to be expected. We dropped our luggage off and made our way around town. When we arrived back, we are both exhausted and wanted to take a nap. We had a beautiful canal view room, front of the hotel. Sadly, they mounted a flag pole directly to the outside wall between our two windows. It is very windy in Amsterdam and the flag litterally created a machine gun banging noise a few feet from our bed. It was unbearable. We were told they would take the flags down which they did after about an hour. It did fix the problem for a short time. The ropes/wires on the poles bang so loudly when the wind picks up, you cannot even think of sleeping. They did accommodate us by moving rooms which turned out fine. That's one star off of my review. The second star was really quite frustrating as well. The service at the front desk is not superb. I spend 10 to 15 minutes the previous night working with a nice younger gentleman on printing out my boarding passes. We managed to get one and I emailed guest services the other. I was expecting them to bring them to my room or leave them at the front desk. As you guessed, when I returned in the morning on my way to the airport they could not find the boarding passes, not the one I printed the night before and they could not located the emails. So after wasting about 30 minutes in total, we left and headed to the airport. I would say this is a nice hotel and in a good spot. I would make sure that you do not stay in rooms 114, 115, 116 and maybe above 114. If they have not figured out how to fix the rattle noise, you will be in for a rude awakening for sure. On the plus side, we ordered room service every morning which showed up on time each morning. It was a bit of an adventure though, some morning they forgot silverware, another cream etc. These little details make the difference between a 5 star and a 4 star and I think at this point, the property is not 5 star yet.
