Just don't go to the ER Friday night, that's all. There's a certain headcount for hospital staff and everyone and their cousin is overdosing on Fentanyl in Phoenix between the hours of 6pm-3am. When I came back the next morning, I received the BEST care imaginable. From Sara the ER nurse all the way up to Dr. Quan - Toxicology - after I was admitted to spend the night (again, but in my own room).
Kindness, compassion, humor, and those special touches received, made a painful experience all but go away. Still on the fence on whether it was a pit viper bite or not. In my non-medical opinion, I don't think contact with any plant would elevate d-dimer levels and break someone's body so badly.. but hey.. I'm the patient, they're the smart ones and they got the cellulitis & coagulopathy under control.
They controlled for clotting, spread, and I walked out the next day. I'm writing this from my standing desk in Austin, TX. That was a close call and I'm glad HonorHealth was down the street. Still waiting on the bill... I'll just leave this here before that happens
