What started as a great experience quickly turned ...

What started as a great experience quickly turned into a not so great one. While I found the staff to be super friendly, there were just issues that went wrong, leaving us utterly dissatisfied.

We put $5,000 earnest money, as you would in such a case. Without having the plans completely finalized, they poured the basement. We didn't actually know they had started, but happened to drive by the property and noticed that 1. it was poured, and 2. one of the windows was in the right spot.

There were points where several weeks went by with no contact, where suddenly we were notified that there was concern our plans would not appraise. We came in, they completely dedicated themselves to making it right. For sake of needing a place to live, we just agreed away, and tried to make edits. Still they came back with no feedback. Dates given for deadlines on follow-up appraisals came and went without updates. Although the contact dictates that you "pay cash" for additions, changes -- which of course we had some fluff in there. The basement issue didn't allow us to make other changes to the plan, or re-think it slightly so in the end it would be right. We had sat down with owners, who spent a full day to try to get it right -- but again, once other process started, no communication. We were pressured to get out of our current place, and had to back out of the house; a combination of the issues, dragging of feet, timing, and being locked in. They utterly refused to reimburse us the $5,000 deposit, even though as a business guy I know they'll make margin on the house. I don't usually have bad brand experiences -- I go with the right people. At the end of the day I wished there was a little more humility and understanding that they screwed up big time.
