Only 54,000 other reviewers. Here's my opinion. From a New York City resident, don't hesitate to go.
A few words of advice and information.
You can schedule and prearrange tickets directly from the Statue of Liberty port. We were near Wall Street and simply walked to the ticket counter and told them we wanted to go ahead and schedule ticket purchases the next morning.
We got there about 15 minutes before the first boat left the pier. Even at that time, the line was about 10 minutes long. There is a rather formal security check. Travel light and don't bring a lot of electronics that might require additional screening.
After the check in the boat ride is rather simple. We went to the Statue of Liberty and were overwhelmed by how fascinating it was. Being on the first boat, there was almost no crush or line to see anything.
Ellis Island is fascinating. It actually takes less time than Statue of Liberty. So plan accordingly. If you want to do a search on their computer database that may take a little while. It can also be done online from the leisure of your own house.
After Ellis Island back to the city. At that time the lines were almost half a mile long.
So, book your tickets early, get there for the first boat. Enjoy the visit
