Shanon Wilcox Review of Holmes Regional Medical Center
In the past I would have said this was my hospital...
In the past I would have said this was my hospital of choice as a Registered Nurse. In recent months we have had HORRIBLE CARE for my father with a history of colon cancer. We brought him in per his doctor a month ago for a low HGB. They admitted him and explained they would not transfuse till under 7. He dropped overnight from 8.3 to 7.4 but hospitalist stated he needed a GI consult. Unfortunately this was not possible before Monday and this was Thursday, so after a pint of blood he was sent home to follow up as outpatient. By Sunday he was extremely ill again so we took him to Wuestoff. They found his electrolyte imbalance and the stage 4 cancer that had metatisized to the liver. They connected us with the best Oncologist and he was on his way to treatment to shrink the tumor. Now please know I am not in denial, I know his cancer is not survivable. So three days ago he had been vomiting dark green bile for two days. Knowing he needed rehydration by IV. We took him back to Holmes per his oncologist. The PA was very nice but i am sorry to say the Nurse we had was horrible. She told us that pain and vomiting is normal for his cancer and he looked close to death so take him home so he can die in peace. SO NOW it is a day latet and he is still vomiting. We are again at Wuestoff and he has a complete bowel obstruction. They have treated him amazing and he is feeling better with in two hours of being here. Thank you Wuestoff for actually checking and treating what was really wrong with him, and further for not treating him bad for choosing to treat his cancer with chemo.
