So it is 2018... No border wall yet. Hopefully there will never be because it will ruin the view of this great park. Not to mention that it will interfere with animal migrations and natural flow of water and wind.
So if you get a chance, visit this park before humans destroy it.
The only negative about this park is the distance and time to get there. It is very far if you are not from south TX. We spent almost a day driving from DFW. Some overnight at Midland or Odessa. I would spare at least a week here.
But once you get there, it is all worth it. We spent about 2 weeks in November 2017 including thanksgiving. If you are camping, reserve a site well in advanced. Even in cold season, campsites can be full as in our case. We ended up camping outside of the park, in Terlingua at a place called Rancho Topengga which is actually great.
November is ideal for us for it is not hot and not too cold. The crowd is smaller than usual. However day time is shorter so you can fit less activities in a day.
I can list all the spots to visit here but it will take very long. Just grab the map from the visitor center and visit the highlighted areas. Those easily will fill up your week. If you hike or canoe then you have great more options. If you have 4x4 high clearance vehicle then you can even go even further to some fantastic spots.
I also want to add that just west of Big Bend NP is the Big Bend Ranch State Park which is another great TX park that many people miss.
And yes, bring lots of SD cards and batteries for your cameras.
We will be coming back again since the last time it was not enough to do all we wanted to do.
