First time at a racetrack for me and my son, and so glad it was VIR! My newly-licensed (but experienced driver) son and I came for the Victory Junction Charity Laps and both had a wonderful time! But, we are still arguing over which one of us had better hot laps with the professional drivers: Son says the Radical was more intense than anything I possibly could have experienced, but I say riding with young-blood racing royalty - a grandson of Richard Petty (who did NOT appear to hold anything back during laps in the Petty Camaro) was the best. I think we're both right :)
Being able to drive on such a great track at such a nice facility staffed with tons of friendly people, and see so many wonderful cars (and even trucks!) of all styles, types, and levels, and to interact with so many enthusiasts accompanying their "objects of joy" in one place was a real treat. Helping a fine charity was the cherry on top!
Only downside was that we were held back a really long time by having some "VIP's" put ahead of us as we waited for our turn in the aptly named Radical, but had so much fun watching the various cars come and go on their laps, we only slightly regretted not having time to tour the rest of the facility or visit the folks of Flying Lizard we met at our hotel in Danville who so kindly offered to let us drop by to see the Audi R8 GT4's they were testing at VIR. One thing that isn't lacking is our desire to get back to VIR ASAP and figure out which ways will best suit us to get more track time!
