My family & I used over 500,000 HHonors points to stay y the Grand Wailea. We had been to Maui twice previously but not stayed on the Wailea side of the island.
Pros: The Grounds were beautiful. The beach was very easy to access & a very good stretch of beach.
Cons: Rooms are very outdated in our opinion. The rooms definitely sow the facilities age. My assumption is that only a handful of the 800+ rooms actually look like the photos online & ours definitely did not look the the photos online. There was only a single A/C vent in the room so keeping it cooled to a comfortable temperature at night was difficult. There was no A/C in the bathroom which coupled with the hot light bulbs around the mirror made it unbearable for my wife & daughter to get ready for evenings out.
The worst part of our stay was the beach service staff. They allow a 60 minute timeframe between use of the seats. I was there at opening to secure the seats we wanted for the day. About 30 min into some pool time, the attendant sought my wife out to inquire if we were done with the beach chairs. She said no & that we were headed back out shortly. Within 10 min from that point, she returned to the chair to find our belongings tossed in the sand & the chairs laid back as if they were available.
We brought this occurrence to management attention & they moderately addressed it.
Supposedly renovations are in the very near future, however, I m not sure that we would give the facility another chance.
