We had dinner last night at Cayo Miami. We were 2 couples. The ambiance is great. It has a funky Moroccan look to it and the walls are adorned with hip artists from L.A. to New York. Cool music, very upbeat and stylish. The food was excellent. Everything we ordered had artistic and thoughtful plating, and the flavor combinations and tastes were really good. With that being said, let s get to the service and value. BIG problems here. First, we are 4 and they seat us at a 5 top. It took 15 minutes for our server to come to the table and introduce herself. She was trying hard but it was obvious she could barely speak English. She took drink orders, 3 cocktails and I ordered a glass of chardonnay. 15 minutes later she took our dinner order before the drinks even arrived. I asked her several questions about items and she could only reply very good . All of our drinks arrived at different intervals. 1 drink had to be sent back twice because it was wrong. Still no chardonnay for me. Food started arriving for ONLY Kym and Hopper. Still no drink for me, and no food for Vince and I. It has now been 40 minutes since I ordered a glass of wine. Everyone else has their drink and 2 people have food. My drink finally comes and it s the wrong wine. They take it away. More food comes, but again, only food for Kym and Hopper. So we have now been sitting there for over an hour, I still don t have a drink and Vince and I still don t have any food while Kym and Hopper are now completing their dinner. A food runner comes to the table with a plate that my boyfriend and I are hoping is ours and it s another mistake. It is for another table. We ask him if they have bread or something that we can have until our food come out. He responds incredulously and says Well we have tortillas. Do you want that?? Yes please. Then a gentleman arrives at our table, who I m assuming was a manager, and says to me I m so sorry, this glass of wine is on us. I finally get my wine! 5 minutes later, the bottle of chardonnay we ordered with dinner arrives that was supposed to be for everyone after our aperitif. Server opens the wine, pours it for 3 people (not me because I just got my glass of wine) then puts the bottle in front of another table. When the 3 glasses are empty, no one comes by to refill them and we can t do it ourselves because the bottle is at another table. 15 minutes later we had to ask our server to please refill the wine glasses, and when she does she pours Kym and Hopper two full glasses and gives Vince a few drops. Now keep in mind my Vince and I STILL don t have any food. Food runner comes and serves me ONLY. Not Vince. 10 minutes later, they deliver Vince s food and guess what? Wrong order .again. So we continue to wait. It finally comes. We ask for the bill. $450 for 4 people. Way overpriced for the amount of food we had. I myself only had one small plate. Vince had 2 small plates. Kym and Hopper had about 6 small plates and the bottle of wine was $120. After of all negligence that went on over the past 2 hours, they add a 20% ($70) service charge to our bill. When I managed restaurants in Florida last year, it was illegal to charge a gratuity in parties under 6 people. I don t know if that now has changed, but it was definitely insult to injury. You are only supposed to tip 10% on a bottle of wine, not 20% but they added it anyway. What a disaster! So unorganized. I really don't even think they realize how bad the service is because the manager didn't even come to the table at the end of dinner and apologize. There are SO many amazing options in Miami, I would highly recommend avoiding this place unless you have a lot of time on your hands, deep pockets, and don t care at all about service.
