They won t let you adopt many of the dogs unless you already have a dog which is somewhat upsetting, but if the dogs file says that it s recommended to go to a home with another dog then they won t even consider people who have no pets.... it s a recommendation if they like you, and it s a mandatory requirement if they profile you and decide they don t like you. I once went with my partner and every single puppy (all different breeds) had a sign that they recommend it s forever home already have a dog- myself and multiple other people who wanted to adopt were not allowed and went home. I love their mission; however, I can t support their reasoning if their own staff couldn t explain why they have to stick to the recommendations for dogs to go home to other dogs even as puppies, and even if they are trusting and enjoy humans. The employees were asking around and couldn t give myself and the other people in line (who were all interested in these puppies) a good answer... I don t understand how you can turn away four groups of people all wanting to adopt. The confusing part was that the manager then told the person behind us that if she were willing to make sure the puppy she wanted to adopt was exposed to other dogs (if she either had friends with dogs to hang out with, or took it to a dog park regularly- that she would allow her visitation with the puppy and an opportunity to adopt the dog that the rest of us wanted to see and were not allowed to). My partner and I, as well as the couple before us, were both saying that we felt very profiled... overall, this is an adoption center that often doesn t let people adopt (and without good reason). They either have too strict of rules or not enough (I saw 3 college kids adopt a dog for their frat house... meanwhile we couldn t?). The staff were very rude and condescending in my experience here- one person wouldn t stop talking about their pet bird when all I wanted to do was get information to adopt and they weren t helping us or explaining that they didn t know why their adoption rules existed for some pets... but I m sure other people have positive experiences... I was really shocked to be treated so rudely after putting years of thought into this decision, having more than enough in savings, put in the research, have had dogs in the past, etc just to be turned away because I didn t already have a dog at home... wouldn't you think people might come to adopt because they DONT have a pet?! really unfortunate
