I have never been here in all the 62 years I have lived in London but I have been curious as to what it would be like to go to the opera. We recently had a chance to go to watch La Traviata on a Saturday afternoon and was stunned firstly, by the building. We know it looks great from the outside but the inside has had a really impressive makeover in recent years with several bar and restaurant areas where you can have a drink or bite to eat. Prices, as you would expect, are quite expensive but if you are going to an experience like this you might as well treat yourself to a refreshment.
Back to the main reason why we went there: the Opera. Brilliant. The theatre is sublime with it's ornate decoration and amazing domed roof. The sound and acoustics are excellent and the story was so moving which is helped by subtitles. If I had a niggle it would be that the subtitles were very high up which left me with a sore neck by the end.
It has definitely made me want to go again but this time I would like to see a ballet.
