I ll start by saying I believe pet adoption is the way to go. I just don t think this facility is the place to do it for the following reasons:
Poor communication and response
Arbitrary re-submission of paperwork
Unnecessary delays and dragging of process
Seemingly biased
We d planned to buy a dog for my boyfriend s mom who d just retired, but a neighbor mentioned adopting and we wanted to do the right thing! We found this shelter and immediately fell in love with one of the dogs there and we were told there were no pending applications for the dog. My boyfriend went to visit the dog since his mom was out of the country traveling and immediately knew she would be perfect for mom. He submitted an application that same night (May 1st). After receiving no response for a week, he called and text the cell associated with this shelter several times. He ended up randomly visiting the shelter to follow up on the application status after probably 20 calls/texts and was told the application wasn t received. So he submitted another one on May 15th. Another week and pop-up later he was told that because no current veterinarian was listed even though he said on his application that his former cat died many years before so he didn t have a vet. He was told it had to be filled out, so ANOTHER application had to be submitted with the vet he would take the dog to (May 21st). Did that ..and guess what no response. At this point we realized that they just didn t want to give the dog to us - for whatever reason (I ll not post what I believe to be the reason here). I do believe that they were dragging their feet with our application until someone else came along. It should never take over a month to get a decision when all we ever hear about is how dire the situation is and how badly pet parents are needed!

Finally, today they sent an e-mail saying that his application was denied because they couldn t validate his vet reference . He obviously didn t have a vet to give a reference. They never called or follow-up even though the effort was there on our part in the multiple visits, various e-mails, and numerous phone calls that were made to ensure our interest in the dog was shown. Anyway, we will be moving on to the county animal shelter as we are turned off by private facilities.

Don t subject yourself to this, or allow them to toy with your emotions .find another shelter to adopt from that has more respect for the people who have made the decision to adopt!

Good luck finding your fur-baby out there everyone!!

Yay....she knows how to respond to things!
