Today god shined upon me. I have been suffering since the age of 17 with congenital deformities of my lumbar spine. When i turned 25 i became a chronic pain patient im now 36. I have what is called ankylosing spondylitis. it has caused my cervical spin and lumbar spine to collape on their structures and i have two imploded lumbar vertebrae and 4 lumbar herniated discs. I have been living with pain since i was a teenagaer that my parents chalked up to growing pains. they newer took me to see a physician. Believing them it took me until i was 25 to find out the cause of my chronic pain because now i was loosing sensation in my legs and falling to my knees and face regularly. After i was diagnosed i was sched for a 4 level lumbar inter body fusion and pedicale screw stabilization. the doctor told me he would probably ultimately paralyze me and the pain would not be cured. I was labeled a poor surgical candidate for Nuerospine surgery and sent to pain management at 24 years of age. i have been given every drug on the market. They even had me on 30omcg of transdermal fentanyl daily among a slue of other meds to control my excruciatingly disabiling pain. I was a board certified Surgical Assistant and a Fellow of the Association of Surgical technologists before this happened i had an amazing career as a health professional in front of me. My neuro surgeon suggested i wear a lumbar corset with a rigid abdominal front. This rigid plate on the brace pushes your abdominal contents up against the anterior portion of your spine helping to keep the lumbar spine in a normal state of alignment thus giving the patient relief. I paid thousands for this brace and i never felt any relief from it. things just became worse.
Finally, ten years later if found Dr. Stephen Gephardt, Md. This doctor has literally helped eliminate pain that i was having that i had absolutely no control of even with medical treatment from other doctors. Then i asked can we order a new lumbar corset. Dr. Gephardt refered me to Precision orthodtics.
I saw Mike the paractioner there who had several option of back braces to choose from. The brand of brace is from Aspen Medical. The first brace Mike fitted me with was a small lumbar corset. Once i put it on immediately i began to feel releif of lunar spine pain and pain that shoots down my leg called chemical radiculopathy. The pain faded away within minutes and in the first time in ten years I have never had control of my spinal pain this quickly. Morphine did not work as fast. I began to start crying and laughing because is this really happeneing that my pain that usually is severe has ceased to a 0.5 in two minutes.
I would like to thank Mike at precision orthotics from the bottom of my heart for helping me with the options provided to me and the ultimate outstanding care I was given. thank you so much for ceasing my chronic pain that would last 24 hrs daily for the last 25 years. You all are wonderful caregivers giving the disabled a very real chance to become functional and also giving us a chance to contribute to society.
I can t thank you enough Mike. You are surely an angel saint sent by god to care for your patients.
