We had dinner here for the first time this past Sunday. We put our name down at exactly 8PM with the outdoor hostess. She said it was 1/2hr wait time. She did NOT in anyway indicate it might be longer. My husband is diabetic so at 8:20 he took his insulin based on what we were told. At 8:45 still no table and the hostess didn't even say anything to us although we were in front of her on a bench. At 8:45 I asked what's going on. She said it will be another 10-15 min. I told her that's 1hr wait, not 1/2hr as she said. Her reply was "I can't control when people leave". We were getting very concerned about the insulin and waiting longer so we went inside to eat there although we wanted outdoor dining. They have 2 rooms inside and we liked one better. We asked to sit there and we were told they are about to shut down that room. Reluctantly we said ok to the other room which is kind of dark and noisy because the bar is in there. Even in there we were given the worst table right by the entry way where everybody comes and goes. WE WERE FED UP & DISGUSTED. We would have left but there were no other restaurants nearby and the insulin was a major concern. Just at that moment the outdoor hostess said she could seat us outside. I spoke to Roger (manager). He had no sympathy for us and said "well we can't throw people out you know". About 15 min later, I think he realized this was not the right way to respond so he came over, apologized and offered my husband orange juice. Later he came by again with his business card and reassured us that NEXT TIME we would not have any problems.
By the time our entrees came, the place had mostly cleared out. There were people at one table who had finished dinner and were just chatting and another couple was having desert. The staff was also cleaning up all around us. That was our ATMOSPHERE. I ordered Atlantic sole which was strangely 4 strips, dry, and piled one in top of the other. Fingerlink potatoes also dry mostly under the fish. My husband did like his filet mignon. We spent over $100 and needless to say we would NEVER RETURN.
I do believe we should have been offered something under the lousy circumstances but seeing what another customer said that he had to fight to get 50%off, its clear it was not going to happen. It must be the way they do things at the famous Tewksbury Inn. LESSON LEARNED!!!
