Bought day-of tickets. The line + security took about 45 minutes. The ferry over has lots of seating and viewing space. We didn't have tickets to go to the pedestal but enjoyed walking around and taking in Lady Liberty from various angles. There is food and snack for sale and some shady spots in the grass to sit on. The ferries back head out every 20 minutes, with a stop at Ellis Island before arriving back at Battery Park.
