Edit: i i have been working with Internode for years. Their service is every bit as good as you'll see from any other company and better. Their staff are only human and can make mistakes but my recent NBN move was as seamless as possible and I had a good deal and excellent tech support, troubleshooting and information provided by personable people who always called back when promised and even more just to ensure my case was fully satisfied. Their plans are only a few dollars more expensive than other ISPs in some cases and they help with costs where they can. Any hold-ups I had were caused by NBN and Telstra and not Internode.
Old post below.

Internode has a lot of bad reviews, and I can understand why. They're a small, Adelaide-run business with their callcentre based right here in the city, and they work from early in the morning right through the night.

I recently took over the management for my business and am handling the payments and accounting between ourselves and Internode and can confidently say that, although the experience has not been problem-free, every issue has been easily solved over the phone with a friendly and knowledgeable assistant, who understands the customer lingo and their way around Internode's internal systems and is relatable and human whilst doing so. They have always helped us out with payments and in times of shortfall, and have even been kind enough to give us small loyalty benefits over the years.

Their internet service is reliable, if perhaps not the most stable in Australia. With a quality router and fairly up-to-date wiring a stable and decent connection is achievable, with speeds pretty much stock standard for the different areas. Dropouts happen but no more than with any other company.

Billing took a fall and hit its head when TPG bought iiNet who bought Internode, but seems to have recovered from the headache now. A talk with customer support saw an unbiased and fair conclusion to any imbalances that came up during the changeover period, and all is back on track as per normal as of posting.

The TL;DR and conclusion: Internode is one of the better internet companies in South Australia. They might not be quite boast-worthy, but they do their job and provide what they promise to. Their customer support is fantastic, friendly, and helpful, and, provided you don't ring during peak hours, connects you to another person in less than thirty seconds. Their billing and emailing systems are somewhat unorthodox, and can indeed be rather confusing for those without much know-how, but a quick call to their support lines and they will help you through even the most unrelated problems. The key is to talk to them, and give them time. Take a moment to read up on their terms, including details on their server refresh periods (90 minute blocks, synced to midnight, in case you were wondering) and to use their call waiting list page (a page on their site that estimates, to a few minutes' accuracy, how long you're likely to wait on hold if at all) and to call the friendly people at their help line if you have any problems.
Finally, be sure to save your bills just in case something does go wrong down the line. A simple bit of proof can help surpass the types of hiccups we experienced during the buying-out recently.

Four stars from me; very good service and support, if a little confusing and infrequently unstable. I doubt any other company could do better.
