Arit Eminue Review of Statue of Liberty and Ellis Is...
I ve always wanted to visit the Statue of Liberty....
I ve always wanted to visit the Statue of Liberty. The history. The art. The architecture.
Departure was from Liberty State Park in New Jersey. Adults pay $18.50 while kids pay $9 to access Ellis Island, the monument grounds and the museum ONLY. Those who want a tour of the Pedestal (to see the statue itself) have to pre-book online and no less than two weeks to desired date of visit.
Transportation is by Statue Cruise ferries which are very safe and secure. There s even airport-style security check points before one embarks the ferries.
There are snacks and drinks available for purchase on board the ferries. Souvenirs are on sale too. It gets very windy on board and you really have to keep an eye on kids and minors.
The first stop is Ellis Island where you basically move around to take pictures as well as visit the museums. It s a beautiful place full of history.
The next stop is the Monument Grounds itself.
If you want to have real value for money, try going on a weekday. Weekends can get HECTIC!
The Museum is full of history, art, architecture and education. I don t really know how to describe the experience but it s a lot to take in. You get to know how the Statue of Liberty came about, how it was built, why it was built, her evolution through time, the works!
You get to take pictures that will be mailed to you as your souvenir from the National Monument. You have the option of printing your pictures out if you can stand the queues. Your pictures go up a big screen and with other pictures, float to the middle to form the Statue. How cool! #BecomingLiberty
There are also other areas where you get to see metal skeletons of notable historical figures and learn about their significance to America s story.
The souvenir shops sell all sorts of memorabilia. Mind your wallet or you ll be BROKE when you re done picking and paying for your things.
This is the one tour everyone visiting or living in the USA should go on. It s very educational and enlightening.
FUN FACT: Did you know that the Statue was France s gift to America? It was given in celebration of America s centennial after her independence.
