History ITB (Instalasi Teknologi Bandung) started ...

History ITB (Instalasi Teknologi Bandung) started from the beginning of the 20th century, on the initiative of the community then. Based on the existing literarur that the initial goal of ITB establishment is to meet the needs of technical personnel becomes increasingly difficult due to disruption of relations between the Netherlands and its colonies in the archipelago, as a result of the outbreak of World War One. Technische Hoogeschool te Bandoeng (often shortened to TH te Bandoeng, TH Bandung, or THS) was established on 3 July 1920 as the first high school in the Dutch East Indies.
ITB Campus is the place where the first Indonesian president, Soekarno, earned his degree in Civil Engineering. The length of study to become an engineer is four years. Until the closing in 1942, THS has three parts (afdeeling) namely Civil (1920), Chemistry (1940), Machinery and Electricity (1941) but the last two parts have not been able to graduate an engineer.

During the Japanese occupation, efforts to reopen the lectures of TH Bandung were firmly rejected, but research activities in the laboratories of TH Bandung campus were allowed. The laboratory community is called Institute of Tropical Scientific Research (Institute of Tropical Scientific Research) which is manned by many academic staff of TH Bandung. Then in the period of Indonesian independence, in August 1945, his name was changed to Bandung Technical High School (STT Bandung) which opened three parts namely Road and Water Building, Chemistry, and Machinery and Electrical Parts with a four-year study. In 1946, STT Bandung moved to Yogyakarta but because of the Dutch army invasion to Yogyakarta, on December 19, 1948 STT Bandung in Yogyakarta was forced to close. Some time later the school was reopened in 1949 by only holding Civil Section only and became the forerunner to the birth of Faculty of Engineering, University of Gadjah Mada.
On 12 March 1947, NICA established Universiteit van Indonesie based in Jakarta. THS campus and its faculty are made into Faculteit van Technische Wetenschap. On October 6, 1947, Faculteit van Exacte Wetenschap was established. It later became the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Physical Sciences and Natural Sciences of the University of Indonesia in Bandung since February 2, 1950.
The decade of the third decade of the 1980s was marked by the grace and teaching and learning process that began to enter the modern era with the increasingly equipped physical facilities of the campus. The number of undergraduate graduates is increasing and post-graduate programs begin to be opened. This situation is supported by the improving socio-political and economic conditions of the country.
In the four decades of the 1990s an engineering college which originally had only one department of education, now has twenty-six Department of Undergraduate Programs, including the Department of Sociotechnology, thirty four S2 / Master Programs and three S3 / Doctorate Studies - the elements of science, technology, art, business and the sciences of humanity. Now, with the annual supply of the best Indonesian students, the Bandung Institute of Technology is one of the best science, technology and arts centers in Indonesia. Each year, the Bandung Institute of Technology chooses a best student to be sent to national student elections. Ganesha Prize is a tribute to their names who earned a best student this. This award is usually given formally at the ceremony of new admissions.
