On October 17, 2020 I lost my grandmother unexpect...

On October 17, 2020 I lost my grandmother unexpectedly. My grandparents initially had arrangements at Laurel Land Funeral Home but decided to use Restland Funeral Home. Legally, you have the choice of selecting whatever funeral home you would like no matter where you have arrangements. The SCI Dallas Care Center has had a change in staff recently, and their preparation of the deceased is not what it use to be. The lack of attention to detail is very obvious. For this reason, we chose Restland Funeral Home where we knew my grandmother would be in good hands. The trust policy was purchased in 1979, and paid in full. Laurel Land Funeral Home did not lose any money because we chose Restland, in fact they gained interest from the policy. Once the arrangements were made at Restland, my grandfather wanted to rent the chapel at Laurel Land for $895. This would have accommodated my family and the elderly in the Oak Cliff area.I spoke with an employee from Laurel Land to see if any time slots were available, and they had to get a manager's approval to use the chapel. Nicole Kelly, the funeral home manager spoke with the employee in regards to our family's situation and immediately stated she could not accommodate my family's wishes. If this is against SCI company policy, this was never communicated to me. Nicole appeared to be very insensitive, once she was informed we were not using Laurel Land Funeral Home. If the policy is no other funeral home can rent the chapel, Laurel Land could have provided their staff in lieu of an outside funeral home to accommodate a grieving family. Laurel Land Funeral home would have gained profit, and I know this is the main goal. When the funeral director from Restland had to contact Laurel Land for information purposes, they were very rude and aggressive over the phone. This is not what a grieving family should have to encounter from a business that is being paid for services and uses the word Dignity to describe their company. Earl Anderson from family service, was the only employee to show any type of compassion. I do not recommend Laurel Land Funeral Home for any type of funeral services.
