June 2019 we stayed for a few days at van der Valk in Purmerend. If you have ever stayed at the new van der Valk in Apeldoorn or Tilburg then this hotel really does not fit that list. The hotel has around 30 rooms that are reasonably clean. I don't want the bathroom with its plastic shower doors at home anymore, really dated. In warm weather the room is also not pleasant because air conditioning is missing. The space behind the hotel for bicycles was much too small, most bicycles were outside. This is a problem if your bike has a fixed battery and you want to charge it. Because the hotel is so small, there are also many fewer facilities that you will find at the other van der Valk hotels. We thought it was a bit like cheap Fletcher hotels. However, the location of the hotel is great. A few minutes walk and you are at the cow market. On and around this market there are plenty of terraces and restaurants, Surinamese, Turkish Chinese etc. The dinner at van der Valk was also good, but with the large choice near the hotel it is very tempting to try elsewhere.
