Review of Hotel Teatro

My daughter and I first visited Hotel Teatro a couple of weekends ago for a mother-daughter weekend in Denver. We received such a welcoming and VIP experience during check-in that we thought they had us confused for someone else. We were baffled. The concierge, Matthew Slavsky, upgraded us to a corner room with amazing views of downtown Denver and greeted us by name our entire stay. This guy doesn t sit behind a big wooden desk in the lobby looking bored. He circulates and finds YOU.

The hotel is in an older building (slow elevators) with a hip and upscale interior and a very friendly and relaxed vibe. The location is prime downtown and only steps away from Larimer Square. The Study lounge and Nickel bar in the lobby are great places to gather, especially with your dog. (Teatro is VERY dog friendly.) It felt like home, and we didn t venture outside the hotel nearly as much as we had planned because we were so damned comfortable.

We loved it so much that I booked another room for the very next weekend with my husband. We wanted another balcony room on the ninth floor which was full, and I shouldn t have been surprised when the concierge, Matthew, recognized my name on the reservation and called me personally to get us the same beautiful room.

On my second visit, Melissa and Jack(?) at the front desk took such good care of us that my husband immediately fell in love with the place, too. They even watched our dog while we went to grab some lunch to kill time until our room was ready. (Of course our Cheney is the most well-behaved, sweet baby angel in the world.)

Hotel Teatro is well managed and has some of the the best staff of all the downtown hotels I ve visited. Get this--I filled out a hotel survey from our first visit and mentioned some burned out bulbs in our room, and they were all replaced on our return visit. The only constructive criticism I can give concerns The Nickel bar/restaurant staff. The food is delicious and the service is solid, but the head bartender/manager is not the friendliest chap. Granted, on our second visit, we were in a large party with small children (never easy for waitstaff), but I noticed his attitude on my first visit with my daughter as well. Just a jarring transition when you re glowing from all the attention the reception staff lavishes on you.

I could not recommend this hotel more and just wish I had found it earlier. Despite pared down staff and amenities, reduced dining hours and extra cautions in place due to COVID, this place is SPECIAL. I can only imagine how fun it must be during the normal times. We live in Boulder, and Teatro is now our staycation destination. Upscale yet unpretentious and a whole lot of fun.
