The airport is named after our one of the great freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
Though the airport is spread over an area of 1641 acres (664 ha) also it is the largest hub for air traffic in Eastern part of India and one of two international airports operating in WestBengal,the other being in bagdogra.
