Based on my experience as producer we do not recommend doing business with Kraaijeveld Groente & Fruit or with Mr. Jan Kraaijeveld.
In good faith we sold a container of fresh MD-2 pineapples to Mr. Kraaijeveld on FOB terms on March 9th. When the pineapples arrived on April 15th Mr. Kraaijeveld claimed all the pineapples were in a bad condition and he would not pay for them. Please note that by that date the Dutch government had ordered all bars and restaurants to be shut due to the Coronavirus crisis (so there would not be the usual market to sell these too for Mr. Kraaijeveld).
Citing the same Coronavirus crisis, he did however deny access to the container to both a local official of the Panamanian consulate and to a certified local independent fruit inspection company we employed. He also withheld the readings on the temperature sensor that was placed inside the container at the pack house immediately prior to closing and placing the seal.
Only at the request of our local lawyer for payment did Mr. Kraaijeveld send them a quality report on May 6th (the container arrived on April 15th), which looks flawed and is riddled with inconsistencies. The creation date of the report is several weeks after the supposed inspection date, and the report bears the name of a different company (who know nothing about this report) rather than our own company name. The photos also look manipulated.
We are also left wandering how his own independent fruit inspection company did get access to the container, while we were denied access by him?
We also understand that Mr. Kraaijeveld paid the shipping company for the transport in full. It is strange that no claim would be made against the shipping company when a full container, as claimed , arrives in a bad state. We are guessing though that it is easier to try and dupe a small producer on the other side of the world, than a large multinational company.
